England / A death cert: if he fell overboard?
« on: Saturday 07 July 07 18:59 BST (UK) »
I have an ancestor, William Alexander Saunders, who was born in 1827 at Aveton Gifford, Devon.
On his marriage certificate dated 1848 his occupation is 'seaman', it is also 'seaman' on his sons birth certificate in 1853.
I can't find him on the 1841, 1851 or 1861 census, so assume he was at sea.
In 1865 his wife remarries.
I can't find an entry for a death. If he was killed at sea or just fell overboard would there be a death certificate?
Also.......does seaman suggest he served in the Royal Navy as an able seaman?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Regards siskin
