World War Two / RAF Bomber Command abbreviations & terminology
« on: Wednesday 15 April 09 14:51 BST (UK)  »
In his writing during the war my dad used a lot of abbreviations & terminology which I do not fully understand.    I am hoping someone out there may be able to enlighten me.    I will list just a few.

Grope - I think that may be ground operation exercise???   But what does that entail??
 ORI -??
 ACC course
Bullseye - I think this may be air gunnery practice??
 Fighter Affiliation
(I will save the rest for later, as this may be more than enough at one time!!)

I would be most grateful for any help anyone can give me so that I can better understand his notes.

Northumberland / Convicts Children
« on: Sunday 27 May 07 13:45 BST (UK)  »
Elizabeth Dixon (b. County Clare c. 1811) was sentenced at Newcastle upon Tyne in 1837( 7 years transportation). At the time she was reported as having 2 children & her husband John was reported as being in America. I am wondering what became of the children. Does anyone  know if there were any orphanages around at that time?
