Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Betteley 1841 census look up please
« on: Wednesday 12 December 07 17:07 GMT (UK)  »
Would someone be kind enough to look up John Betteley and family, possibly in Wolverhampton, in 1841. His occupation was land surveyor. He would have been  50 or older.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks very much.

Staffordshire / Betteley land surveyor

Hi, can anyone help?

My ggggrandmother's name was Emma Betteley or Bettey. She married Thomas Horton. Her father is given on her marriage certificate (31 Dec 1839 Wolverhampton) as John Betteley, a land surveyor. I have tried looking in trade directories but can't find him. Can anyone suggest where else I could look?

Thanks

Hi

Thomas Vincent Horton married either Bridget McDonnell or Sarah Bragg in Apr-Jun 1853 at Newport. Can anyone tell me which one it was?  (Ref: vol. 6a p.1409 they are the two possible names on the same page.)

Thanks very much.

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / 1861 census look-up Wolverhampton
« on: Thursday 29 November 07 17:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Could anyone find Thomas Horton, a coffee mill maker, b. 1817, middle name may be given as Vincent, wife Emma, b. abt. 1812 and possibly daughters Elizabeth, b. 1849/50 and Emma, b. 1841, in Wolverhampton in 1861. In 1851 they were living in Petit Street in Wolverhampton St Johns. In 1841 they were in Pountney Street Wolverhampton & Seisdon.

Thanks very much!

Shropshire / Horton/Bradburn in Donnington
« on: Thursday 29 November 07 14:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm new to rootschat and this is my first posting. Here goes. My gggrandmother Emma Horton was born in 1841 in Wolverhampton, dau. of Thomas and Emma. I've found the family in the 1851 census, still in Wolverhampton, but by 1861 Emma's siblings (Sabina, Eliza, Elizabeth) had left home. I can find the siblings, all still in Wolverhampton, but not Emma or her parents. In 1862 Emma married Joseph Bradbourne/Bradburn in Lilleshall parish church. I'd really like to know where she lived between 1851 and 1862, and how she came to live in Shropshire. My grandmother claimed that the family was related to the Hortons who at one time owned/managed the Lilleshall Company but this may just be another one of those family myths. If they are related then they are definitely the poor relations!  :(
