has anyone tried and tested the free downloadable LEGACY 5 software?
i usually use Ancestry Family Tree [ancestry.com] but it has limitations on printouts.
I downloaded it but am awaiting feedback [please  ;D ]

jaq

ps. downloadable from   http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Download.asp
they say:
"This is the full retail product and you get it for free instead of the $49.95 it's sold for during the past few years.  It's the same Legacy that has received so many great reviews from the press and users alike.  Ask anyone using Legacy and you will hear great things.  It's this enthusiasm of our users that has really helped us build one of the most popular genealogy programs anywhere.  We feel confident that once you give Legacy a try that you will know what all the excitement is about and will want to tell your friends also."

I'm a bit confused as to why, after writing a long answer or adding an attachment, if i get a message to say "file too big or message too long - go back" when i do go back to adjust it,the text i wrote has gone and unretrievable  :(

i've now got into the habit to write onto word or notepad and then paste onto board so i dont loose it all.Is there any way to fix this?

Also discovered today that i cannot upload same named file twice - i wasnt expecting an error message for that, so lost all my text again.

not complaining, just confused  ???

Technical Help / Discussion on uploading file types
« on: Monday 24 May 04 10:11 BST (UK)  »
The indexes are in excel format. when i do a look up, i search, highlight /cut / paste etc. is quick and looks neat.
I use spreadsheets all the time, great for sorting data.
how-ever why is it that i cannot upload an xls and the alternative when pasted onto the message window looks very confusing [and messy] to the reader.
any suggestions?
how many lines of text are allowed?

For Sale / Wanted / Events / fiche reader for sale
« on: Thursday 22 April 04 14:33 BST (UK)  »
i applied to help transcribe the National Burial Index......but need a second hand fiche reader available in the Essex area.
i have no idea how much to pay or what they are worth, advise please.

ps.
i recieved this info from the ESSEX co-ordinator about the next release:
"Thanks for the offer of help.  The second edition of the NBI, due out in August, will have around 473,000 fully checked records covering all parts of the county.  We have another 10-12,000 ready for the 3rd edition!

At this time, my main need is for people to help with checking.  We have another quarter of million entries input but not checked.  The dates are mainly pre 1700 so there is a need to be able to read older handwriting.  We work from fiche so you would need access to a fiche reader.   It is then a case of reading the entry on the fiche and checking it against an easy to ready printout and marking any errors in a red pen.  Very little new input is being undertaken whilst the backlog of checking is cleared."
