Dublin / Peregrine Weston's marriage to Mary Gilbert in 1718
« on: Monday 09 April 12 06:42 BST (UK)  »
Hello All

Here's hoping someone will be able to provide the details of a marriage as follows.  Peregrine Weston, b. 1698.  m. 1718 at Dublin, Mary Gilbert.  I would like any details around the marriage including Mary's parents.  It is assumed Mary and her family will have been Quakers as the Weston's were Quakers.

I would like to know the specifics of the marriage and if it was a Quaker marriage there may be additional information on the friends and relatives that attended the ceremony including possible siblings of Mary.

Have my fingers crossed.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Parents and siblings of Thomas Oates (1792 - 1871)79
« on: Sunday 08 January 12 09:22 GMT (UK)  »
A difficult one for the forum members.   ???

I am trying to locate Thomas Oates parents and siblings.

The information I have that is definite is that Thomas Oates married Charlotte Sanderson on 28 Dec 1824 in Sheffield.  Thomas was a merchant and it appears his primary family were also merchants/agents of sorts. Charlotte operated schools.

Thomas died 18 Nov 1871 at Lochbie House, Hornsey Rise, London, N and is buried at Sheffield General Cemetery non conformist section in a plot that he owned.  Altogether 3 are buried in the plot namely him, his wife Charlotte and George Oates who died 16 Nov 1852.  George was also a merchant who lived at Broom Villa Glossop Road Sheffield.   I do not know George's relationship to Thomas but it is assumed he is related in some way.

Have my fingers crossed the collective wisdom of this forum will help me find this family.

US Lookup Requests / Edward Hawksley Oates Charleston (Lochbie Florida)
« on: Sunday 08 January 12 01:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All

A tough one I fear for the forum members.

I am looking for the family of an ancestor Edward Hawksley Oates born in 11 June 1824 Sheffield England.  It appears his family went to Lochbie Florida and that Edward died there when he was 29 in 26 Feb 1854.  A newspaper article states that the family was formerly of Sheffield England but lately of Charleston.  Edward was the youngest son of George Oates and Frances.  It may be that Frances surname pre marriage was Hawksley but as yet I havent located any of her background.

I am seeking information related to Edward's death; newspaper articles on his death; information on Edwards parents (George and Frances) and his siblings (unknown).  A tall order I fear.

Also a little more information that may assist - that Edward was a Merchant of Lochbie, Marion County of Florida and later of Charleston South Carolina. Youngest son of George Oates King Street Charleston South Carolina...

Have my fingers crossed.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Rev William Roberts
« on: Tuesday 27 December 11 12:16 GMT (UK)  »
A tricky one I fear for the Forum members.

In a Will dated May 1870 the Reverend William Roberts is living with his married sister Anne Sanderson at No 5 Bickerton Road Upper Halloway or Holloway in the County of Middlesex. I am seeking the census record for 1871 and just maybe 1861 (on the off chance the Rev was still at the same address).

I do not know if there are others at the same address. :)

I am trying to find Ann and Williams parents and all I have is that Anne was born about 1824 in Sheffield and am hoping the census records will give me a lead.

Fingers crossed

Hi

Am hoping someone has experience with the Basford Union Workhouse please.

I just discovered that the University of Nottingham Kings Meadow Campus Lenton Lane Nottingham hold the Basford Union Workhouse Registers of the Workhouse Infirmary including Registers of sick, maternity and mental patients and I wonder if anyone attends the University who may be able to obtain a copy of any records related to Ruth Allen who was in the workhouse when her son Samuel George Allen (no father recorded) was born 1 Dec 1842.

I am hoping to locate any information related to Ruth Allen and hope the registers may hold anything to do with her parents & or siblings  and also if they too were in the Work House. Samuel George's birth certificate does not contain any information on Ruth's age.

I notice also that the Nottinghamshire Archives at Castle Meadow Road Nottingham hold the Guardian Minute Books and wonder if these records might contain some information related to the inmates or are these records only related to Work House operational matters?

Kind regards
