Hi,

I have found my great great Uncles birth details and, although I know the city was Derry, I am struggling to decipher the actual address - I think it's number 22 but cannot fathom out what the address is?

Any help would be wonderful!

TIA

Michelle

Family History Beginners Board / William or Neil Ward marriage to Jane Meechan
« on: Wednesday 03 July 19 16:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

After reaching many brickwalls with my Irish roots, I am hoping I could get some help from this community :) I have worked my way back to the mid 1800s for possible birth dates of my 3x great grandparents - one of which is William Ward, living in Derry in 1879, who was named on the marriage record of his son, also William Ward, to Annie O'Connor - on his son's death certificate the name Neil Ward is listed as his father and his mother as Jane Meechan - I cannot find any record of a marriage with either a Neil or William to a Jane Meechan - hoping someone could give me some pointers please.

Many thanks

Michelle

Hi,

The following is a baptism record for what could be my 3x GGF - Daniel O'Connor - the dates match and he appears to be the only one in the area that the family originate from - I have been informed that the Father's name is Archy O'Connor and his Mother is Susan O'Kane - I have worked out the male sponsor as being Hugh?  but what is the female Sponsor?  I think it could be Annie?  but would like other people to take a look as I do have a habit of being extremely reaching when it comes to names lol.

Thank you

Michelle

Hi,

I have found my great Aunts baptism record and while I can make out her name, (Mary Ward) and her parent's names, (William Ward and Anne Connor), I'm having trouble trying to make out the sponsor's name - I think the surname is Ward but unsure of the first name...can anyone help...I have a couple that it could be and they would tie in with other relatives but a fresh pair of eyes might just make the difference.

Thank you

Hi,
Could someone try and decipher where Aron Warburton, son of Thomas Warburton was from - no amount of squinting has got me any nearer to the place name on this document.

Many thanks

World War One / My Great Grandfathers 1914-15 Star
« on: Wednesday 29 November 17 12:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have attached a photo of my great granddads 1914-15 star? medal - on the back is a number - what does the number mean - the reason I ask is that I presumed it was his rank and number but when searching for his military records I keep coming across the same name, John Doran, but there is a different number from the one on the medal - the number on the record is the regimental number?  So could someone confirm what the number on the medal represents.

Many thanks

World War One / Which regiment?
« on: Monday 27 November 17 00:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Would anyone happen to know what regiment this is, from the photo?  I had previously asked on the handwriting board for help to determine if the word penned on the photo was Daddy or Paddy - Daddy, (my great granddad), was in the Inniskilling fusiliers, 6th battalion and made it to Sergeant, however, Paddy, (his brother), was a sapper!  I now know that the photo is not of the Inniskilling Fusiliers, but wondered what regiment it is and if anyone could shed any light?

Thank you

The Lighter Side / Abbreviations found on census return
« on: Thursday 09 November 17 11:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Hope I've posted in the right place:- my query regards the attached census return - the address is clear enough, being Park Lane, Macclesfield, however does anyone know what the 4H/10C relates to - is it part of the address, (maybe a flat or in a courtyard behind the street) or is it just the remunerator's notes?

Many thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Daddy or Paddy
« on: Sunday 15 October 17 23:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have an old army photograph and on it, someone in the past has written the word Paddy or Daddy underneath one of the soldiers - we currently have no photographs of John Doran as a man, (my great granddad), although we do know that they have existed at some point - the confusion lies with the fact that both John and his brother Patrick, aka, Paddy were both in the army and so we are unsure as to whether it reads Daddy or Paddy - I personally, although I would love it to come back as Daddy, think it reads more like Paddy!  What do you think?  Look forward to hearing from you. Only other bit of info that could assist is Paddy was a sapper in the army while John made it to sergeant in the 6th Battalion Inniskilling Fusiliers?
