London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Census Search STEERS- 1891
« on: Thursday 19 January 06 13:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I have some clues that my Great Grandmother was called Lily Steers and lived in London.  I know her father was a lighterman on the Thames and that she had a sister Rose and that her mother died when she was young.  Can someone please have a look to see if they can find the family on the 1891 census because on the 1881 it seems to fit but what should read Lily certainly dosn't look like Lily no matter how much I squint at it.
Father is called Henry Steers and was born in approximatly 1851, in 1881 the family lived at 1 Chandler Street St George in the East.  If there is a Lily Steers born around 1877 living with them in 1891 then  think I must have the right family as absolutly everything else seems to fit.
Many thanks

Sussex Lookup Requests / 1841 - KEMP Brighton Please
« on: Sunday 26 June 05 19:14 BST (UK)  »
Following on from the Kemp search in Lewes I received the following email from Sue today.....could some one please have a look for her.

"Just had a thought as to why James and Ann Kemp are not showing up in Lewes in 1841.

Here is what I found in the book for 1851

Kemp Albert son U 2 born Lewes
Kemp Ann wife M 36 born Lewes
Kemp James M 42 born Lewes (whitesmith)
Kemp James son U 10 born Lewes (scholar)
Kemp Jane dr 8 born Brighton (scholar)
Kemp Thomas son U 7 born Arundel (scholar)

James and Ann's daughter Jane....if she was 8 in 1851 must have been born in Brighton around 1843 so maybe James and Ann were in Brighton in 1841 and this is why they can't be found in Lewes. What do you think... do you dare to ask for another lookup, this time in Brighton?"

Many thanks,
Claire

Durham / Nicholson - Marsden Rock
« on: Tuesday 21 June 05 19:04 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I've hit a problem...was talking to my mum and she told me that my grandmothers maiden name was Shore, I'm sure she previously told me it was Moore but then I could have misheard her.  Anyway it sends all my research into disarray so I need to start from the beggining....My Grandparents lived in Marsden in Durham, near the rock, I know the village is no longer there but can someone tell me what area it would have been in.  My dad was born there so maybe if I get his birth certificate it'll help.
Thanks,
Claire

Sussex Lookup Requests / 1841 Look Up Please - ACTON in Lewes
« on: Wednesday 15 June 05 19:48 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone find any info on Ann Acton probably aged around 55 in 1841.  On the 1851 census Ann is listed as a shoemakers widow so could you tell us the name of her husband assuming he was alive in 1841 and also any other people living with them.  In 1851 she was living in St James Street Lewes with a son Henry aged 31 who was a whitesmith.

Many thanks

I'm asking on behalf of my Mother in Law for any info anyone can supply on the following people:-

James (aged 30) and Ann (aged 25) Kemp on the 1841 possibly with a son, James.  James and Ann were married on 13.02.1835 at St John the Baptist Church Lewes and James occupation is listed as a Whitesmith.

Not sure if there is any more to be added to that, but anything would be of interest.

Many thanks

Can someone find Joseph Nicholson born in Bampton in 1827 and married to Ann. He was probably a tailor and had moved to Birtley in Durham by the 1861 cencus but I can't find him before that and I'm stuck.

Many thanks

Claire

On the 71 census his birth place is down as Brampton in Westmorland.  I'm not from that neck of the woods but with the help of Google I think that Brampton is very close but actually in Cumberland...am I right?

Can anyone find Henry Geal born in Brasted in 1814 for me please.

In 1861 he was living in Chart Cottage, Brasted with his wife Amelia and children but he is on the census as Kenny.
In 1871 he is living in Pipers Green, Brasted, Kent.

Any info from the '41 or '51 census' would be very interesting

Many thanks

Durham Lookup Requests / JOSEPH NICHOLSON - 41 & 51 Look up please
« on: Thursday 09 June 05 09:53 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have at the top of my tree a Joseph Nicholson born in Bampton in 1827.   He married Ann from Penrith (I think) in 1854 and they were in Birtley in Durham by 1855 where their children were born.  On the 1871 cencus he is down as a tailor and Inn Keeper but can anyone tell me anything about Joseph before 1855?

Many thanks

Sussex / MITCHELL
« on: Tuesday 07 June 05 16:11 BST (UK)  »
Whilst telling my mum how chuffed I was for getting the family tree back to 1782 she suddenly leapt up and disappeared out of the room coming back a few minutes later with a family tree that had been sent to my late Aunt in 1990!!  Could she not have mentioned this before??  Anyway, the research that I'd got joined up with this tree at the point where it got a bit wobbly and our family branched off so with the two trees together I can go from my 3 year old right back to her ggggggggg grandfather Richard Mitchell who was born in 1596 in Ardinly.  However I can find nothing about the family before that.  Richards children were all christened in Ardinly but there is no record of his marriage to Mary or of their burials or of those of their children in the Ardinly area of the Sussex Online Parish Clerk site...so does anyone know where they came from or where they went after Ardingly?  One child, the youngest George was buried in Eastbourne in 1715 and had children by his first wife christened in Cuckfield but that's all I have...can anyone help??
