New Zealand Completed Requests / Green family, immigrants from UK
« on: Tuesday 24 January 12 15:13 GMT (UK)  »
Harry Green was born 8 Sep 1883 in Somers Town, London. I believe I have found him in the England census of 1901, when he was an 18 year-old gunner in the Army in Woolwich. I then have a  record for him marrying Rose Beatrice Millard [b 1893 London] on 27 Dec 1913, Dunedin, then a death record for 6 Oct 1963 in Ashburton, Christchurch.
It is Harry's parents I'm researching - Henry Green born 18 Jan 1860 Kersey, Suffolk, UK and Jane Avey born 3 Dec 1850 in Mildenhall, Suffolk. I have Henry and Jane in the 1901 England census, then nothing more. I'm wondering whether they emigrated with their son Harry to NZ. Is there a passenger list index or NZ census record online that can be checked please?
Many thanks  ..  Peter

US Lookup Requests / Bernard Oscar Graves b1885
« on: Friday 13 January 12 14:18 GMT (UK)  »
Bernard Oscar Saunders Hayward Graves, to give him his full name, was born 29 Oct 1885 in Camberwell, London. I have found him in the English 1891 and 1901 census records living in London, but then all I know is a 'hint' on Ancestry that he may have emigrated to the US. I can find nothing on the Ellis Island site, but there is a WW1 draft registration card 1917-1918 in the name of Bernard Oscar Graves.
This may not be my ancestor, but I would very much appreciate if someone out there can check the details for me please.

Canada Lookup Request / Ernest Charles Barrett
« on: Tuesday 10 January 12 12:08 GMT (UK)  »
I've hit a brick wall with a great uncle, Ernest Charles Barrett. He was born 15 Nov 1882 in Kentish Town, London, England, and appears in the same area in the 1901 census. All I can find on Ancestry [as I haven't got access to worldwide records] is a marriage in York County, Ontario. All other details unknown, it might not even be my Ernest.
Is anyone able to access this marriage record please?
Many thanks .. Peter

United States of America / Florence Emily Underwood, arrived NY 1907
« on: Friday 06 January 12 14:11 GMT (UK)  »
I have a great aunt, Florence Emily Underwood, born 1887 Kensington, London who arrived in New York on 18 March 1907 on board the St Louis from Southampton. The passenger list states that she was intending to stay with her aunt Mrs S Callen of 335 or 2335 First Avenue, New York. I assume she stayed in US as I cannot find any further trace of her in the UK.
Would anyone be able to find out any more about Florence in NY please?

Please - if anyone has access to the parish records for Hasketon near Woodbridge, I am looking for a baptism record and the family of my 3GGF James Catchpole. All subsequent records have been found - marriage to Mary Skeet in 1821 Woodbridge etc - which indicate a 1799 birth.
I am desperate to trace his parents and siblings, so any help greatly appreciated

World War One / Royal Irish Fusiliers
« on: Friday 15 July 11 17:17 BST (UK)  »
My grandfather, Robert Walter Malcolm Bull, was born 1887 in St Pancras, London. I am trying to discover what happened to him in WW1.
I have found two index cards on Ancestry, a private in the Royal Irish Fusiliers no 13635. One card is under the name Robert Wm Bull which shows he was involved in a campaign in the Balkans on 7.8.1915, the other card under WM Robert Bull has an enlistment date of 4.9.1914 and discharge date of 4.4.1918 and various codes which I have no idea what they mean. However I can find no copies of his service records.
Please, can anyone help verify whether these record cards relate to my grandfather.
Many thanks
Peter

World War One / Silver War Badge
« on: Wednesday 13 July 11 14:01 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace details of my great uncle's military service. He was Alphonso William Palmer, born 27.11.1876 in Shadwell, Tower Hamlets, London.
Word of mouth within the family says he died during WW1
I have checked Army records, and there are 4 AW Palmers, none are Alphonso.
However, in the UK, Naval Medal and Award Rolls, 1793-1972 on Ancestry there is an entry under the Silver War Badges issued for AW Palmer, badge no 45954, ON M28116. This may well be him. However, on the National Archives site, I searched for ON M28116 and a Sydney Charles Buck 1894 was returned.
Does anyone know where I can find more details online for the recipient of badge 45954, and do you think there has some transcription error somewhere to account for two men with the same ON?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou  ..  Peter

Armed Forces / Naval Silver War Badge
« on: Friday 08 July 11 11:01 BST (UK)  »
My great uncle Alphonso Palmer b1876 Shadwell, St George in the East, London, was given a Naval Silver War Badge.
According to the National Archives site ; The Silver War Badge...  was awarded to all of those military personnel who were discharged as a result of sickness or wounds contracted or received during the 14/18 war, either at home or overseas.
Unfortunately I have no badge number or other service records to help trace what happened to him.
I am wondering whether anyone can point me in the right direction, or is it down to a personal visit to Kew?
Many thanks  ..  Peter

Australia / Emma CURAIMBUX
« on: Friday 27 May 11 10:16 BST (UK)  »
Emma Palmer was born abt 1851 in Woodbridge, Suffolk, England daughter of John Palmer 1802 and Emma Catchpole 1826.
She married Charles Curaimbux 5.11.1883 in Tower Hamlets, London.
I have no other info on Charles, except that contained on the marriage cert - he was a mariner, widower, didn't know his father's name and signed his name with a X.
The only Google result on the name Curaimbux returns the Queensland State Archives, Immigrant Ship Arrivals - Emma Curaimbux, 32, departed London 16.7.1884, arrived Moreton Bay, Queensland aboard 'Scottish Prince' on 27.10.1884.
I was wondering whether anyone can find any record of her life in Australia, please.
Many thanks  ..  Peter
