Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / Michael Coffee and Honora Murphy marriage 1866 Dukestown
« on: Saturday 19 December 20 20:23 GMT (UK)  »
Michael Coffee and Honora Murphy were married in the Roman Catholic Church of The Immaculate Conception, Dukestown, Tredegar on 18 December 1866.  I have been told that at Roman Catholic church weddings in Wales the mother's name was recorded in the parish records as well as the father's.  Is it possible for a look up to find out their mothers' names.

Thanks,
Susan

HI
I'm looking for Cornelius Coffee but have no idea which part of Ireland he may have lived in.  I would also like to find his son, Michael's, birth record and any other family.

Cornelius's son, Michael Coffee (born approx 1842) left Ireland to work at the Tredegar Ironworks in Sirhowy, near Tredegar, South Wales.  In December 1866 Michael married Honora Murphy in the Catholic church at Dukestown.  His father was Cornelius Coffee, deceased, a Husbandman.  Honora's father was Thomas Murphy, also a deceased Husbandman.

Thomas died in Wales after the 1851 census but before 1866.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you
Susan

Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / Michael Coffee - Inquest Pontypool 12 August 1876
« on: Wednesday 01 July 20 21:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I wonder if anyone can help with this request.  My husband's great grandfather was Michael Coffee.  He was born in Ireland about 1841-1843.  His father was Cornelius Coffee.  On 22 December 1866 he married Honora Murphy in Crickhowell.

0n 4 August 1876, 34 year old Michael Coffee was found drowned in the Monmouthshire Canal and an inquest was held in Llangibby, Pontypool.

I am trying to find out if this is the same Michael Coffee.  I haven't been able to find a newspaper report.  Any help would be appreciated.

Surrey / Benjamin Rhodes of Gatton, Surrey 1780
« on: Saturday 01 June 19 20:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I’m trying to find a marriage / family / burial of Benjamin Rhodes (also spelt Rodes/Roads/ Roades /Rhoads/Rhoades).

He was born 18/4/1780 and baptised 7/5/1780 at St Andrews, Gatton, Surrey.  His parents were Thomas Rodes and Sarah Carter. He had 4 younger siblings born in Gatton and I believe 5 older siblings born in Merstham.

I know he had at least one son, William, born approx. 1804.  It is a bit of a mystery when and where William was born as William gives different birth places in the censuses:- 1851 – Banstead, 1861 – Wotton, 1871 – On the sea, 1881 – Gibraltar.  William married Emma Pain 25/9/1842 in Limpsfield and was buried in Warlingham on 10/3/1888.

Any help tracing Benjamin would be appreciated.
Thanks, Susan

Hi

I would be grateful if someone could look up the marriage of Morgan Best of Limpsfield, Surrey and Hannah in Westerham, Kent in 1796.  Tinvins is the name on the Pallots Marriage Index.

Thank you.

Surrey Lookup Requests / Joseph William Chapman Artist
« on: Saturday 09 March 19 20:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am trying to trace Joseph William Chapman who was the father of James William Chapman dob 1856 Southwark, Surrey.

James was a stained glass artist and when he married in 1877 he gave his father's occupation as Artist.  I assume Joseph was also worked with stained glass.  However, I can find no trace of him in any census.  When James married for a second time in 1890 his father was deceased.

The death of a Joseph Chapman was registered March quarter 1883 St Olave, Southwark but I don't know if this is the right Joseph Chapman.

Also if anyone knows anything about where James would have worked as a stained glass artist I would be glad to know.  He lived in Southwark, Camden and Croydon during his lifetime.  The only information I can find about stained glass artists is about the well known artists - William Morris, Burne Jones etc.

Thanks for any information.

Hi
I wonder if anyone is able to look up the inquest details for James William Chapman who died on 7 May 1927.  An inquest was held in Croydon on 11 May 1927.  I would especially like to know who reported the death. I understand Surrey History Centre have these records.
Thank you.

Hi
I’m trying to trace the parents, siblings and children of Charles William Chapman born about 1880.

He married Mary Ann Rhoads on 4 October 1902 at St Augustine’s Church, Croydon, Surrey.  Charles’s father was recorded as James Chapman, an artist.  Charles gave his address as 45 Churchill Road, Croydon

I can’t find any census records for Charles and Mary Ann or Charles and his father James to give me clues.

The only child I know about is Charles Thomas Edward Chapman (known as Tom) who was born in Ramsgate on 23 March 1914.  I have his birth certificate. I know he had siblings but not any of their names.  His parents were living in Chapel Road, Ramsgate at that time.

Any help with the Chapmans would be greatly appreciated.

Surrey / Henry Hoaen / Owen - death in St Saviour Southwark
« on: Monday 09 March 15 21:35 GMT (UK)  »
I have been unsuccessful in looking for a record of the death of Henry Hoaen in St Saviour parish, Southwark between 1871 and 1881.  I am now beginning think his death may have been registered as Henry Owen rather than Hoaen as in the 1871 census Henry, his wife Maria and their son George were recorded as Owen.  There is a death registered for a Henry Owen aged 43 in Jan-Mar 1877 vol 1d page 108 and I wonder if anyone is able to look at the entry in the parish register for St Saviour for this period.  Henry and Maria also had 2 other children, also called Henry and Maria, one of whom may have registered their father's death. I know Henry died before 1881 as in the census for that year Maria is recorded as being a widow.  Thanks for any help.
