Oxfordshire / Help finding John Hervey [Harvey]
« on: Tuesday 29 November 11 20:15 GMT (UK)  »
My 4x Great Grandfather Samuel Harvey was married 17th June 1802 to Ann Bates at ST Editha Abbey Polesworth Warwickshire. They were married by Licence which states Harvey Samuel of Shipton Oxford,He signed with a mark "the mark of Samuel Shipton" [sic]!!!!.This entry is not on the IGI.
However the IGI has a baptismal entry at Shipton on Cherwell
Hervey Samuel son of John Hervey and Anna 20th February 1774
[He may have been 8yrs old at the time ,as the 1841 census for Polesworth gives a Samuel Harvey as 75yrs so 1766 birth ?]

There does not appear to be any further entries in the Shipton on Cherwell records for John Hervey and Anna, and they did not marry there. This makes me think he was an Ag Lab and probably moved around,or could he have been connected with the canal building ,as a wharf was opened in Shipton in 1787.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Seeking John Malson
« on: Thursday 25 November 10 21:58 GMT (UK)  »
My 2 x great Grandfather has eluded me for years .He is not on 1841 or 1851 censuses and he was killed in an accident in 1853.he married in 1852 to Susannah Williams in Rhymney Mons, both stated this parish, but there is no evidence that they were born there.Indeed on the 1861 census, Susannah now married to Stephen Perry, but still living in Manace Row where the Malson Children were born ,gave her birth place as St Briavels Glos.
John Malson's marriage cert states his father as William Malson, there are two William Malson's living in Abenhall, the one on census for Lady Grove for 1851 had wife Sarah from Abenhall ,but William and his children all seem to have been born in East Dean, but no John ,there is a space for him.
The reason i favour this family is they had a son Richard on the 1851 census ,listed as Engine Driver [Very early railways] and a probable spur to Johns occupation given on certificates as Fireman/Railman to follow an elder brothers occupation ,at which he was killed, but no luck with the inquest .I wonder was there some sort of training school for Railway men ? where he could have been in 1851?could he have been working in1841 at 13yrs ?maybe on a farm or a miner?
I thank you all in advance if you can help with my quest

Glamorganshire / Rhymney via Bedwelty Railway Co
« on: Thursday 09 September 10 11:49 BST (UK)  »

My Great grandfather John Malson was killed in an accident on the railway .He lived in Rhymney,Mannace Row ,with wife and 2 children, I have his death certificate ,he died 15 February 1853 an inquest was held on the 17th at Bedwelty.
My question is What Railway Company employed him ,the accident appears to have happened in Bedwelty ,so which co ran the railway in 1853  from Rhymney via Bedwelty to Cardiff ?or Newport?
Once i have this info i might be able to find staff records and ultimately his place of birth which is elusive
         My thanks in advance .
