Australia / Finding the death of Ellen WRIGHT
« on: Friday 29 September 17 03:19 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone
I am still on the hunt for the death of my great great grandmother.   She was born in Antrim, Ireland in 1838, came to Australia as an assisted immigrant with her sister Mary, married John WRIGHT IN 1859 and proceeded to 'go on the road' with him while he laboured at building the railways in Victoria and NSW.
She had 5 sons (1 died aged 10 mths) and 2 daughters. The last son Denis was born in Albury NSW (I do have his birth certificate) in 1878 but I cannot find anything at all about him after this date.
Plus I cannot find Ellen either.    Husband John died in 1903 but his death certificate does not mention his son Denis or his wife.
Any help greatly appreciated.  I have tried the usual suspects ie.  NSW and Victoria bdms, and family search.  Thank you in advance. :)

Northamptonshire / Death and burial records Northamptonshire
« on: Friday 07 August 15 04:37 BST (UK)  »
Afternoon all
I have an ancestor George Henry GURNEY who died Mar qtr 1980 registered Northampton and I would like to find an obit or burial notice but haven't been able to access or find anything at the moment.  I have written to the Northampton council but they have no GURNEY's on their burial registers. Have also tried the county crematorium but no luck.
Is there any way I can access 1980 notices please?  I have also tried British Newspapers but they don't seem to go much beyond 1954.   Be grateful for any advice.
Thanks in advance.

Worcestershire / The Harris Family
« on: Sunday 12 July 15 04:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
I have two certificates from the GRO that are not our family and I wondered if anyone else out there was researching the Harris family.
The wrong certificates I have are:
Birth:  Nellie Harris b.March 1883 registered Kidderminster, Worcestershire.
Mother: Mary Ann Harris nee GUEST; Father:George Harris, bricklayer.  Address of birth 35 Pleasant Street but the rest is unreadable.

Death: Joseph Harris 23 Nov 1901 @ Birmingham Street, Stourbridge ; brickwork labourer; Registered Stourbridge, Worcestershire/Staffordshire by daughter H.Harris who was present at the death.

I cannot find either of these two people on the 1901 census, and I don't think they are connected to each other but they could be.  If this is your family, let me know and I can email the certificates to you.
Thank you.

Canada / Hunter BENNETT Saskatchewan
« on: Saturday 28 March 15 01:22 GMT (UK)  »
Afternoon all
I am trying to trace the birth of Hunter BENNETT, son of Nellie (nee Harris) and William BENNETT, born Saskatchewan, according to the 1911 census where he is aged 2 years.
I have managed to trace his brothers Harold and Walter but Hunter is proving elusive.
Vital Statistics cannot seem to find him so any ideas would be gratefully accepted.  Thank you  ::)
Also, where is the best site to find Canadian deaths.

Cheers
L.

Antrim / PRONI look up
« on: Thursday 27 November 14 03:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I'm trying to find a great great uncle who has mysteriously disappeared off Northern Ireland about 1895-1900.  He was a fitter and I'm picking he worked on building of ships in Belfast.  He is on the Belfast & Ulster Directories of 1895-96.  I was wondering if there was anyone out there who could look up an inquest file for me please at PRONI.  The name is William HARRIS and the file number is DOW/6/1/1/1/68.  There is a family story that he could have been lost at sea, but I cannot find any information on that score.  As I live in Australia, it is a tad hard for me to visit PRONI.
There is only one coroner's inquest file, so I need to be able to see if it refers to the right person or not.  Thanks in advance.

Other Countries / SRI LANKA - Looking for Gilliat
« on: Sunday 09 September 12 07:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
I'm looking for any information on bdms in Ceylon from about 1870-1920, in particular births and marriages.
The Gilliat family seems to have hopped between the UK and Ceylon on many occasions during this time, arriving as single people and coming back some years later with wives and children!   I would love to be able to find when/where the births and marriages took place.   I have tried the FIBIS website but haven't had much luck.
The names I'm looking for are Peter Oswald Gilliat (b. c. 1914) and/ or his parents Lionel Oswald Gilliat and Cassandra Page-Turner (or Blaydes).  I know Lionel went to Ceylon in 1908 and came back to the UK in 1918 with a wife a 4 1/2 year old son.
Thanks all.

We require information on Leslie Joseph James GURNEY who was born in NZ early 1900's.   He is on the NZ WW2 Nominal Roll so anyone who knows the name can you please enlighten us as to his parents etc?  He apparently died in 1975 in Pukekohe, Auckland, New Zealand and was a market gardener but that is all we know.

Many thanks  ???

Europe / AUSTRIA BDMS
« on: Thursday 19 January 12 04:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
After a long time hunting, and shelving of the research, I am now back in the hunt!
My quarry is the family of my g-grandmother Jemima Henrietta BETTELEHEIM.  Her father Jacque BETTELHEIM was born in Hungary in 1811 (IGI)  then moved to London, England where he married Jemima TIPPING in 1856.    3 children were born to the couple in London, then in 1861 when the family was in Vienna, Austria, 3 events took place.
1)  Son George age 4 died in May 1861
2)  Father Jacque died in July 1861
3)  My g-g-grandmother Jemima (after her mum) was born - month not known.
I would like to somehow get the certificates for these events, especially the birth of Jemima but do not know where to turn.   Any help appreciated.
PS Not sure when Jacque went to England, cannot find him in the 1851 census.
Thanks all.

South Africa / Marriage certificates
« on: Saturday 18 June 11 13:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
I have just discovered a connection to the Cape of Good Hope, Cape Colony, Africa - [yes that is what it says on a death certificate].   What I am hoping to get a copy of is the marriage certificate but I cannot see where to find the marriage entry.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?   It was a marriage around 1840's.
Thanks.
