Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Can anyone date this photo, please?
« on: Thursday 10 March 11 17:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I'd be very happy if anyone can date this photo. My brother just e-mailed it to me, and it came from my aunt's house, who was born in 1923. I wondered if it might be her parents, who were born in 1880, married 1901, in Bristol. The oldest child was a boy, though, which doesn't match this particular  photo.

I have no old photos of my family, so it would be lovely to know more about this one.

Thanks for looking!

Family History Beginners Board / Likeliest error date or place?
« on: Monday 07 March 11 19:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. I tried searching the forum, but no luck, so I hope that this hasn't been dealt with before, and I missed it.

I am tracing an ancestor, Mary Norris, who was born in Hereford, according to all of the census entries (1841 - 1871) in Bristol. Her estimated date of birth vary from 1804 - 1807, and in what I think is here death entry (where she is now Mary Ann Norris), even 1803. I am trying to find her maiden name, and tracked down a marriage in 1835 in Bedminster (Bristol), of George Norris to Ann Brewer. Mmmm .... it fits with the children's dates, but the name ...

I found a Mary Brewer, born in Ross, but in 1809, so a bit late. Here mother was an Ann.

So, how likely is any of this, and which is more likely to be wrong, place or date?

All in all, a bit of a mess. I would appreciate some advice from you experts on how to tackle this type of situation. I use findmypast, but they don't have Herefordshire parish records, yet. I used IGI, which is where I found the 1809 entry.

I often go into overload, I think, and wish I had an easy way to be more focussed. I have downloaded hundreds of BMD and census files, but keeping track of them ... I recently changed genealogy software, and the files didn't transfer across, so I have a lot of catching up to do.

Thanks for reading this! Any thoughts welcome!

Somerset Lookup Requests / 1881 Baptism, Bedminster, Annie EVANS
« on: Sunday 19 September 10 16:18 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am trying to find out more about my grandmother, Annie EVANS. There is an Annie EVANS baptised 12 January 1881, at Holy Nativity, Bedminster (should that be Knowle?). The parents are Alfred and Kate Evans.

Can anyone do a lookup, and give me more information? That would be fantastic. I assume that she is my grandmother, but I am starting to doubt, as I have come across another Annie Evans, born in Wales, about six years later, who might be the right one ... goodness, it's hard, tracking down Evans ...

Many thanks for reading,

Eileen

Family History Beginners Board / Correcting a GEDCOM file?
« on: Monday 02 August 10 20:03 BST (UK)  »
Hello there,

Is it possible to correct an error in a GEDCOM file? I use GPro, on a Mac, and realised this week that I have made someone a father who is only four years older than the child, duh. Worse, I have managed to track the spurious "father" back some way, with certificates, etc., so I don't just want to delete him, because I would lose a lot of other entries. With luck, he will be related in some way ...

Any tips, please?

Eileen

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / 1834 Baptism, Bristol BARTLETT
« on: Monday 02 August 10 19:42 BST (UK)  »
Having discovered recently how good you all are, here's a look-up request that one of you may be able to help me with ...

John BARTLETT, baptised 13 July 1834, Father Joshua, mother Sarah.
Place: St James, Bristol, Batch No C01965-5, Source Film 1595556, Ref item 1 p 286

(From Familysearch)

I just realised that I made a mistake with parentage around this time (father born before child ... mmm), so I am keen to try to fix this bit!

Thanks,

Eileen

Hello there,

You have already been very helpful, and I wonder if anyone has this information for me? I hope that someone can look up Daniel Livingston, buried 26 June 1831, listed in the Register of Burials at the Edgeley Wesleyan Chapel, Stockport, Cheadle. I am hoping that he is that father of Samuel Livingston, and that he was born in about 1752.

Thanks for reading this!
