Cumberland Lookup Requests / Margaret Bell - Whitehaven Look Up
« on: Tuesday 01 February 11 14:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I hope someone can help me out.

I have found my Maternal G/mother's (Florence May Bell) birth in 1900. on her B/Cert it states her mother was Margaret Bell living at 18 South Marsh Street Whitehaven. no fathers name is provided. Her occupation is marked as "Domestic Servant".
By the 1901 census Maragret is not there, but my G/mother is,  it looks like she was "adopted" by the Brown family on the same street, now I really would like to find out about Margaret, can any one look up information on the Electoral Records as i think this is my only hope.

Unfortunatley I have no idea how old she was at the time.

Many thanks in advance :)

Cumberland Lookup Requests / Help-Dead End- Brown
« on: Tuesday 10 August 10 15:49 BST (UK)  »
Can someone help me with this please

I am trying to find my Maternal Grandmother's line. We have very little information, and what we do have comes to a dead end.
She was Florence May Brown born in May 1900 in Aspartia(?). I can only find someone by the same name in Ulverston at this time. This line shows (in the 1911 census)she had 5 younger siblings (we were tod she was an only child) and that she was invalid, not attending school (I know this could be something as simple as chickenpox, broken arm etc, they were that vague back then). I need to try and discount this family. I have my grandparents b marriage Cert which claims her father was named John Brown (deceased) and his occupation was a farmer. On the 1911 census this shows he was an Ironworker, could he have changed professions or is this unlikley????

Cumberland / Browns in Ulverston
« on: Friday 06 August 10 15:20 BST (UK)  »
I hope some one can help? I am looking for descendents of John James Brown & Mary Ann Brown (Nee: Newton) who lived in North Lonsdale Road in 1911.   I believe that I am descended from one of their children, but need a bit of clarification.

They were married at Holy Trinity Church in Ulverston on 3 July 1899. John James is 27 and is living in Dale Street and Mary Ann is 19 and living in Upper Sun Street.
John James’s father was called Septumus and Mary Ann’s father was called Myles (deceased at the time of their marriage)

According to the 1911 Census John James (then 40 years old) worked as a Iron Worker, blast furnace, Mary Ann Brown age is 31. They are shown to have 6 Children: Florence May (11), who I think I’m related to, Maud (9), Harold (8), Edwin (7), Reuben Fredrick (2) and Arnold Gilbert (6 weeks).
