The Lighter Side / Surely girls couldn't join the army in 1891?
« on: Tuesday 22 February 22 17:46 GMT (UK)  »
Was looking for someone else in the 1891 census when I spotted this on familysearch :
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:7PTQ-12M
A 22 year old girl apparently in the 10th Royal Hussars at York Cavalry Barracks.
I am intrigued. Unfortunately I don't have Ancestry because I would love to know what it really says on the image. Surely not?  :o

Armed Forces / Royal Sussex Regiment 52nd Grad. Bn.
« on: Sunday 13 June 21 14:04 BST (UK)  »
This is in a soldier's record on the CWGC site. I know that Bn. is Battalion, but what does Grad. stand for?

I have checked the abbreviations on the armedforces site, but Grad. Is not there.

Armed Forces / CWGC Abbreviations
« on: Thursday 10 December 20 14:47 GMT (UK)  »
On the CWGC site, I believe Bn. means Battalion, and Coy. means Company.

Does attd. mean attached? As in 3rd Bn. attd. 5th Bn.

I do think CWGC should provide a glossary on the site.

The Common Room / Deceasedonline
« on: Wednesday 15 July 20 13:49 BST (UK)  »
I found a burial on deceasedonline.

After clicking on the name of the deceased, it says I can buy "Grave details and 4 other burials" for £1.50.

Does anyone know if this will tell me the plot number? I clicked on the "about" link but it isn't clear.

I can find my thread and read the replies by clicking on the link in the email notifications.  Now I want to thank the people who replied, but first I need to log in.  But when I have logged in I am taken back to the home page.

So I tried clicking "Show unread posts since last visit" and "Show new replies to your posts" but my thread is not listed in either of those.

While browsing the Help files looking for an answer, I saw a plea for people to post a response to their own threads -  well now I know why people don't - because there is no way to find your own thread after logging in!

Warwickshire / Temporary Military Hospital, M-nyhall?, Birmingham
« on: Thursday 24 May 12 17:23 BST (UK)  »
The burial register records this as a soldier's last address in 1917.  I hope that someone may recognise 'M-nyhall' and know what it is meant to be :)
