Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Lookup in Wrestlingworth
« on: Thursday 31 October 13 16:56 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for a baptism for a John White, born in 1840ish, somewhere on the Cambridgeshire/Bedfordshire border.

He can't seem to decide if he's from Wrestlingworth or Tadlow, and he doesn't seem to be in the Tadlow PRs so if anybody could have a look in the Wrestlingworth ones that would be very helpful.

I'm afraid I don't know his parents names, I'm still waiting for the marriage cert to get to me.

Cambridgeshire / Please help find Richard Burgess's baptism
« on: Wednesday 31 August 11 17:37 BST (UK)  »
I know Richard Burgess was married to Anne Matthews in Jesus College Chapel by banns on 28 Oct 1752, from the Comberton Parish Records. They're both listed as being otp, but I can only find Anne Matthews baptism record in the parish.

I know Richard was buried in Comberton on 26 Jul 1768, but I've no idea where he was baptised. His wife Anne was baptised on 6 Aug 1732, so it seems sensible to assume that he's roughly the same age.

Anybody have any ideas? And why were they getting married in a college chapel anyway?

Cambridgeshire / Parents of Eliza Ann White, Bassingbourn
« on: Friday 17 June 11 23:58 BST (UK)  »
I think Eliza Ann White was born in Bassingbourn in 1879. On the 1881 Census she's living with her parents John White and Eliza in Bassingbourn with her brothers John and Richard. She's still in Bassingbourn with her parents on the next census in 1891.

But I have no idea when her parents, John and Eliza got married, what her maiden name is or where exactly the pair of them come from, I've really hit a brick wall on these two.

Kent / Police in Kent - Alfred Hollands
« on: Thursday 16 June 11 14:12 BST (UK)  »
Alfred Hollands was born in 1849, Higham, Kent. On the 1871 Census he's working as a Police Constable and living in Minster Police Station. By 1881 he's married Eliza Barnes and they're now living in Knockholt. By 1891 they've moved back to Minster and he's now Sargent. In 1901 he's made it up to Superintendent in Sandgate.

What I'm really asking is are there any other sources I could be looking at concerning the police in Kent? He seems to jump around the county rather, but with him making it up to Super I would have thought there are some records somewhere about him.

Sussex / 1891 census - James Kingsbury and family
« on: Sunday 05 June 11 13:53 BST (UK)  »
I've found James Kingsbury, born roughly 1841 in East Peckham in Kent on the 1871 Census married to Hannah and living in Withyham.

By 1881 the family are still living in Withyham, and now have two children, Annie, age 4 and Samuel James, age 2.

I can't find the family anywhere on the 1891 census whatsoever.

But by 1901 James and Hannah appear to be living in Crowborough in Sussex and Samuel and Annie have both moved to Sandgate in Kent and are living there together.

Can anybody help me track them down in 1891?

Was looking at a record for William Lay in the 1861 census, but I can't read where his parents are from. He's from Hants, Martyr Worthy, but can anybody figure out these two?

Armed Forces / HMS Volunteer in 1918
« on: Tuesday 02 November 10 19:12 GMT (UK)  »
I have a birth cert that was issued in 1918 that lists the father, William Jonathan Kay, as an able seaman on the HMS Volunteer. Can anybody give me any more idea what the ship was like and where I could go for more information about his service record?

Occupation Interests / Teacher's records
« on: Sunday 24 October 10 19:23 BST (UK)  »
I have a relative who was a teacher and I'd love to know if there are any ways of getting some more information about what school she taught at.

She's May Burgess, from Long Stanton in Cambridgeshire, born in 1900 and taught in Cambridgeshire all her life as far as I've been told. I do know she never married.
