Staffordshire / Eversley House, Leek
« on: Sunday 22 October 17 01:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I believe that there used to be an Eversley House behind the St Edward Street end of the northern side of Broad Street Leek.  I think the house was quite substantial and had a lodge on Broad Street.   I believe that the house was demolished in the early part of the last century and the land redeveloped to form the Eversley avenue estate which is there today.  Does anyone have any info at all about the house or its owners and in particular any photos.  Any help will be appreciated.

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Broad Street Leek
« on: Tuesday 05 August 14 20:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi
My mother lived at 16 and 18 Broad Street Leek 1910 to 1920.  Unfortunately these are two of the properties that were demolished in the redevelopment of that bit of Broad Street.  Has anyone got a photo showing these original properties or is able to direct me to a possible source.  Any help will be much appreciated.

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Martha Ann Watts
« on: Wednesday 16 July 14 16:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi
My G Grandmother, Martha Ann Watts, daughter of William Richardson Watts and Leah Watts (nee Barlow) was born 11 Jan 1854.  The 1861 Census lists her as having been born in Bradford, Yorks but the 1871 through to 1901 Census' list her as being born in Alton, Staffs.  During the 1860s the family appear to have lived in Alton most of the time.  I am trying to obtain her birth cert. but can find no trace of her having being registered in either the Bradford or Alton areas.  I will be most grateful if anyone is able to offer any help or suggestions.

Staffordshire / Hannah Heaslow - Staffs
« on: Monday 24 February 14 21:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
My GG Grandmother was Hannah Heaslow, born abt 1814 in Ipstones.  She married my GG Grandfather, John Thompson, 1832, in Burton on Trent and they lived most of their married lives at Wetton Mill.  I'm trying without success to find any information about Hannah's parents.  I can't in fact find any record of any 'Heaslow' in that part of Staffs at that time.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Staffordshire / Wetton Mill
« on: Monday 20 January 14 01:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am trying to find out about the history of the mill at Wetton Mill, nr. Wetton, Derbyshire/Staffordshire.  When did the mill first come into being and what happened there between the mill closing in about 1860 and the Tea Room opening mid- 20th century.  Any info about the various owners of the mill and/or photos would also be welcomed.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Jonas Mitchell
« on: Sunday 04 August 13 22:17 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to determine the mother of John Mitchell b. 1833 in Lockwood Huddersfield.  The 1851 and 1861 census' have his parents as Jonas and Mary but I can't identify the maiden name of Mary.  A Mary Jowett is shown in parish records as having married a Jonas Mitchell in 1829 , both from Ovenden but I suspect that this is a different couple and not the parents of John Mitchell - the 1861 census shows a second Mitchell family, parents Jonas and Mary living in the Ovenden area.  If any one can help with this it would be much appreciated.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / St Lukes Milnsbridge
« on: Friday 02 August 13 02:50 BST (UK)  »
I have two relatives listed as having been buried at St Luke's, Milnsbridge, Huddersfield in 1864 and 1880.  I note that the church is now disused and the grounds fairly overgrown.  I live some distance away but would like to see the graves if they still exist and if the graveyard is accessible.  Can anyone tell me about the general state of the graveyard and whether headstones are still generally legible.  Also is there a map of the graveyard available showing the whereabouts of specific graves.  Any help will be appreciated.

Staffordshire / Woodcroft in Leek
« on: Monday 04 February 13 00:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I have discovered that some of my ancestors according to 1901 census lived at 'Woodcroft' in Leek Staffs.  No road/street is given so I am thinking that it is a building of some significance.  Can anyone give me any info about where it is/was and anything about it.  If anyone has a photo that would be great.  Any help will be much appreciated.

Staffordshire completed Look up Requests / Street Names in Leek
« on: Monday 21 January 13 13:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I have found three hand-written baptism records for the 1820s from St Edwards in Leek Staffs.  Apart from the normal info they give street names for where the parents were living at the time.  The three locations given were - 'Compton', 'Newtown Compton' and 'Hollow Lane'.
I am particularly interested to find out exactly where these three locations were.  Can anyone tell me whether 'Compton' was an area or just the name of the street at the south end of St Edward Street.  Likewise with 'Newtown Compton'.  Also where 'Hollow Lane' is/was.
Any clarification will be much appreciated.
