Derry (Londonderry) / John Black & Mary Flannigan
« on: Friday 04 January 13 10:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there, does anyone from this post know of

Hi there, I have been looking at posts about the Black Family, I see that you have helped a few people. The Black family I am researching are as follows

John Black m Mary Flannigan about 1850 (assuming Derry)
Son John Joseph Black b 1855 Coleraine, Derry immigrated to Australia (dates??)
Son William Joseph Black  b 1857/8 Londonderry immigrated to Australia also probably about late 1870's -early 1880's,

I have seen an entry for a William Black with John Black as Depositor fro 13 June 1860 in the NSW, Australia, Immigration Deposit Journals - still looking up what this means.

John Joseph Black m Hannah Noonan (from Cork) in Victoria Australia
William Joseph Black m Mary Noonan (also from Cork, sister of Hannah) in Victoria Australia, 15 April, 1882.

Both Brothers settled in Brunswick, Melbourne, Victoria and had children there.

any help or links would be appreciated.

I have 2 WW1 cerificates that I would like to get more information on.  My Father William Barker (mosley) b 1931  d 1998 had these certificates in australia,he grew up in Sawbridgeworrth, but the family was from Hatfield Broad oak area.

I have searched the National Archives on  a number of occassions but I am still unsure where to look, would someone from Hatfield Heath be in the Essex Regiment and there are many Barkers.

I have looked at some UK war archives but haven't really come up with a place to search for the origin of them.  I would like to know where I should search for the origin of them in the Sheering, Hatfield Broad Oak areas, so that I can ascertain the correct WWI records to look at. They may lead to exact Regiment numbers to look at, as there are so many Barkers on the National Archives. The Cerificates are for Harold Barker b13 Feb 1898 Hatfield Broad Oak, and William Barker 1 Oct 1872, his father born in Hatfield Broad Oak.

I tried to attach the images of these certificates but nothing happened,  ???maybe due to me using google chrome, but the details are the prints were done in The National Society's Depository, 12 Princess Street Hanover Square. Harold Barker is No 294. It reads Welcome home to Sheering from the Great War. With some other words and very ornate.

I have done a search for the National Society Depository, but am none the wiser.  Any help??

I have great great grandmother as Johanna Sheehan born circa 1828 in Bandon, co Cork.  Her parents are Mary Maloney/Moloney/Mullowney married to Frances Sheehan.  Johanna and her sister Catherine came to Australia I'm guessing in the 1840-50's.  Johanna Sheehan married Thomas J Hewitt in Ballarat, Victoria in 1855.  She could neither read or write.  There are a few possibilities for Ships.  Anyone knowing of any links to ireland and or furhter background would be appreciated.  There are some leads going to US and Canada and back for Johanna (if they are the right ones). Getting a birth place would be good but as the spelling of surnames is different in a few documents been a bit difficult.  any leads??
