Lanarkshire / Help! Suggestions! on a John Henderson.
« on: Monday 25 November 13 03:25 GMT (UK)  »
I have started to go over previous research I have done and believe I was headed down the wrong path.

I am looking for a death certificate in hope to find parents names.  I want to buy some credits on Scotland people but with the name of John Henderson will I need to take out a bank loan?.  :P

John was in the 1911 census living at Kelvenside with his wife Jessie and sons John and Peter.   He was a cooper and born in about 1854 in Caithnessshire wick.

His wifes name was Jessie Stephens or Steven.

So anyone have any suggestions on how to get the best out of the information I have without spending a mountain of money.

Thanks for your time

Debbie

Hi,

Researching from Australia and trying to find the best Newspaper or newspapers to look for family notices.  Hoping that people could advise the papers that are user friendly and that they like the most.  I have gathered that the newspapers are all by subscription. :-\

Researching - Glasgow, Aberdeen and Caithness to name just three.
Families - Craib, Henderson, Ferguson, Steven to name a few.

Cheers

Norfolk / criminal records
« on: Tuesday 19 July 11 07:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

Can anyone tell me if there is more information to be found on trials that took place in Norfolk in 1826.  And where I can look.  I have done searches on his name but nothing comes up.  I found his name on Ancestry with very limited information.

I have an ancestor who was transported to Australia.  His name was Gamaliel Thompson or Tompson.  His trial was held at Norfolk on the 11 July 1826.  He arrived on the Hastings in 1827.  He was born about 1804.

I would like to confirm that I have the correct Gamaliel Thompson and hoping to confirm that My Gamaliel was the son of Gamaliel Thompson and Mary Bansley.  Found trees on ancestry but no sources.

Anyway that's the story.

Cheers

Durham / Jane Elwen can anyone help?
« on: Friday 15 July 11 06:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  Searching for information on Jane Elwen.  Looking for parents or siblings and a death date.

She married Thomas Ellis on the 29th July 1857.  aged 21.

Her residence at the time of marriage was Wellington Road Bishopwearmouth.  Her fathers name was Joseph Elwen occupation Husbandry. Witnesses to wedding - Isabella Crington (or Orington) and John Phillips.

1861 census has Thomas and Jane in Bradford,  born in Sunderland, Durham abt 1838. (married at 21 has her born abt 1836).  They had three children in total that I know of, George E Ellis b1857, Sarah E Ellis b1851-d1863 and Anne Ellis B1861. (Jane registered Annes birth day after birth (Sarah and Anne baptised 15 Oct 1862 both parents names on register). Later George and Anne came to Australia.

Have not found Jane in any other census or Anne either.  George appears with his father and new wife in 1871 census.

Thomas Ellis marries again to a Mary sharp in 1871 and then again in 1877 to an Elizabeth Robinson. In 1871 Thomas is listed as a Widower on marriage bann.

Anne's marriage certificate has parents as - Thomas Ellis and Jane Brown.. (must have remarried not died as originally thought)

I look at all the clues but just can't find answers.

Any help or any ideas would be fantastic.

Cheers Debbie

Lancashire / Found Grandmother .. but

Can anyone see if they can see a Jane Smith on another census.

What I know.

Susannah Smith b 1826 in Trawden and died Dec 1873 in lancashire.  Married a Thomas Dawson on the 22 May 1857 in Silsden.
 children
  Ann Dawson b1849 , Manningham
John Will Dawson b1851 , Keighley
  Mary Dawson b1854 , Manningham
  Thomas Dawson b 1856 , Silsden

Ann and Thomas I found on the 1861 census at there Grandmothers . Jane Smith.  at Black Lane, Trawden.  Jane is said to be born in Wine Hill, Lanchashire. This is all I have for Susannah Smiths family.  No father, no brothers and sisters, but at least I found her mother (i hope).  no certificates yet as information yet.  I am not sure if you can search by street names, but had no luck finding her again.  And Smith would be her married name so that makes it harder.

Anyway I just though I would see if anyone can see something I missed.

thanks

Debbie
