London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / St Bart's, Holborn - buried in middle aisle
« on: Sunday 10 February 13 09:58 GMT (UK)  »
Morning all :-)

Does anyone know if there are records online that give details of who is buried inside St Bart's, Holborn?  I have come across an ancestor, who according to his Will, wanted to be buried next to his wife under the middle aisle of the church (her burial is confirmed in church records on Ancestry).  His name was Benjamin Cooper, died/buried 11 October 1786.

Also, why would someone be allowed to be buried in a church rather than the graveyard, his occupation was Goldsmith, so no occupational links with the church.

Thanks
Anna

Kent Lookup Requests / Plaxtol Parish Records Request
« on: Sunday 11 November 12 14:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Does anyone have access to the original Plaxtol Parish Records?

I am trying to find out the name of the mother of Frances Greengrass, chr. 23 November 1746, father John.  On the IGI is says the mother was Margaret but from other records her mother was apparently called Rachel, so I'm not sure if there is a transcription error on the IGI.

Another reason why I think Rachel is the mother is below:

John Greengrass married a Rachel Wybourne, East Peckham on 21 July 1746, he was a bachelor, she was a spinster.  On 3 April 1756 in Shipbourne, Frances (and other siblings) are the subject of a settlement examination along with Rachel Greengrass widow.

Many thanks for your help

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / 1841 census look up request please
« on: Sunday 14 October 12 12:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I found a reference to a Stawall Marshal living at 11 Queen's Row, Lambeth, Surrey in the 1841 census - I got excited thinking I could easily find the census return on Ancestry (which I have a subscription to) but I can find it at all!  It does appear on Find My Past though - would someone mind taking a look for me - the details I know are:  he was born approx. 1771, his son Stawell was living with him at the time of the census and possibly his wife Jane.

I would like to know who else was living with them, occupations and whether Stawell senior was born in the county or not.

Many thanks for your help :-)

United States of America / William Frances Josolyne - Pennsylvania/Tennessee
« on: Sunday 06 May 12 17:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

My GG uncle, William Frances Josolyne born approx: 1841 Ware Hertfordshire, England, married Louisa Elize Pryke, 19 August 1869 St Mary, Willesden, Middx, England (his occupation was Goldbeater).  At some point between 1869 and 1876 they emigrated to the US as their daughter, Alice Margaretta Josolyne was born 19 October 1876, Harrisburg, Dauphin, Pennsylvania.

The next records I can find are the deaths of William and Louisa - Louisa died in 1913 and William 1915, both are buried at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Davidson County, Tennessee.

Apparently William's occupation in Tennessee was a Landscape Architect and he played a key role in the creation of the Centennial Grounds in Nashville.

I haven't traced ancestors in the US before so Im at a bit of a loss as how to go about it - I would like to find out when they arrived in the US (I have looked at the Ellis Island site but can't find any records) and why they might have turned up in Tennessee.  I would also like to find out if they had more children and what happened to them as I can't find any more records (apart from Alice - but I can't find a marriage or death for her either) for children born to William and Louisa.

Any pointers in the right direction would be welcome!

Thanks
Anna

Essex / Mumford / Birchanger and Clavering
« on: Sunday 01 April 12 15:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to trace the ancestry of James Mumford.  According to his marriage entry and the 1851 census, he was born circa. 1770 in Birchanger, Essex - if he is a member of my Birchanger Mumfords, then his sister's were called Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah and Edith (Edith married Joseph Lucking).

I have looked through the Birchanger parish records on SEAX but can't find any MUMFORD birth entries in the time frame 1750 - 1780 (this isn't the James Mumford who married Mary Warwick and lived in Birchanger post 1800).

Info I know is:

James Mumford married Mary Nash, 20 February 1798 St Michael's, Bishop Stortford.

Children:  James 1807, Sarah 1803, Thomas 1813, William 1800, John 1811 and Mary 1798 - all of their children were ch. at the Independent, Clavering, Essex.

1851 Census - James (born Birchanger) aged 81 and Mary (born Bishop Stortford) aged 74, occupation retired Farmer, living at 88 Chapel Hill, Stansted.

If anyone has a connection with this family, or have come across the MUMFORD name in their research, please let me know.

Thanks
Anna
