Cambridgeshire / HOW(E) Mary. Soham Cambridgeshire UK
« on: Thursday 17 November 11 07:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hello there. :)  My Great Great Grandfather, Richard HOWE was born in Soham, Cambridgeshire in 1823 to Mary Howe, father unknown.  Mary married Edward Morely in 1826.  In the 1851 Census, Edward was widower and Richard was called Richard Howe.

In 1849 Richard married Susan(nah) Johnson at Soham, the marriage being registered under both the surnames, Howe and Morley.

Richard (28) and Susan(nah) (23) migrated to Australia on the ship "Java" with their children Edward Henry (1) and Mary Alma (3), arriving on 27/4/1853  My Great Grandmother was a child Arundel Frances Howe born here in Australia.

I have the local parish records on CD, but cannot find out when and where Mary Howe was born or died or who her parents were.  If anyone can help me that would be great.  Many thanks.  :D :D  Chrissie 246

Wales / Evan JENKINS. b.ab. 1882-3
« on: Saturday 13 August 11 02:15 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

My Grandfather, Evan Jenkins, son of Evan Jenkins (1848-1916) and Grace (Gowman - 1846-1937) had several siblings, Alfred-1875, Grace-1878, Lillian-1880, Fred,-1884, William-1886, Ernest-1888, Albert-1890, Caroline- 1892,  & Eva- 1892, twins, John Ivor- 1894, Victor Alexander- 1898.

Five (5) of these children were born in Africa, we believe at Cape Verde Is. they being Evan, Fred, William, Ernest & Albert, even though they all used to say they were born in Swansea.  The 1901 Census says Cape Colony, but this seems to have been penciled in.  Both Evans are missing from this Census, I believe Evan Jnr was at the Boer War as a Kitchener Scout.

The father Evan Snr. was a Manager for Cory & Sons, shipping people and one of his jobs out in Africa was to dive down under the ships to check them.  I am told one of his dive suits is in the Museum.

What I would like to know is how were these overseas births registered if anyone knows please?  Were they registered as overseas and/or Wales, or both?

Many thanks.  Chrissie.  :) :) :)

Australia / OWEN and Jackson family Newcastle area late 1800's
« on: Friday 15 July 11 08:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  I am researching my Great Grandfathers family.
David OWEN, married Arundel Francis HOWE in 1882 at Newcastle
Ann OWEN who married John JACKSON at Newcastle in 1887
George Phillip OWEN who married Marcella LYNCH 1892 at Newcastle.

David OWEN and his family came out from Wales.  I am trying to find out when and how many of the family came out also.

Parents of David, Ann and George were William and Mary Anne (Phillips) OWEN

Many thanks.  Chrissie  :) :) :)

My Great Grandfather David OWEN.  Migrated to Australia ? when, married here to Arundel Francis HOWE in 1882 at Lambton, Newcastle, Australia.

I can find no records for him from after his birth until 1882.  His parents are listed as William OWEN and Mary Anne (PHILLIPS).

I am new to this site, so I am learning the ropes.  Many thanks
Chrissie :)
