World War One / GRO Index - C E D Philpott
« on: Tuesday 12 March 19 08:50 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to find a death certificate in the GRO Index for this man, but without success.

Rifleman 4943 Charles Edward David Philpott, born in Dudley, resident 55 Freeman St, Coventry according to his surviving service papers.  Died after discharge on 7.7.16 according to "Soldier's Effects".

He's not recorded by the CWGC, but I'm trying to find his death certificate to see if he should be so honoured.  Can anyone find him on the GRO Index, because I can't...

Worcestershire / Eli MANSELL - 14a St James Terrace, Dudley

When did he die?

He's on Dudley's War Memorial (as is his son, Joseph).  He was discharged from the Army on 26th June 1919 as unfit for service.  Suffering from Pulmonary TB (not helped by his previous occupation as a miner) he latterly served with 717th Labour Corps.

He is not on CWGC/SDGW, but the worthies of Dudley must have thought him fitting to be remembered on the town Memorial.

Does anyone know when he died?

Worcestershire / BARKHAM family - Dudley area
« on: Wednesday 28 September 11 14:28 BST (UK)  »
Please go easy on me - this is my first post!

I am researching the men commemorated on Dudley's Clock Tower War Memorial.  I've done pretty well, but there's a hard core of 50 or so chaps who defy identification.

One of the names inscribed on the Memorial is BARKHAM - just that; no initials.  None of the Barkhams I can find on the CWGC website have a Dudley connection (where n.o.k. details are shown).

Does anyone have a clue as to who this Barkham might be?
