Hi Chatters, I’m looking for help! Grab a coffee before reading as it’s quite long.
Anyone good at breaking down brick walls? I’ve found a marriage between Isaac Swalwell & Eleanor Rowell m 7 Feb 1863. In the 1871 England census Isaac is living in Front street, Cassop, Co. Durham, married, boarder but no mention of his wife Eleanor. In fact I can’t find her anywhere! Move forward to 1881 he is living in Back Road, Tudhoe, Co. Durham with the same family as in 1871. He seems to have move house with them! The 1891 shows him as the head of the house and his wife is now Jane Swalwell nee Henderson (her birth name) and is the daughter of the previous head of household (Mary Henderson d 1882). I cannot find any previous marriage of Jane Henderson who could be the father of her 3 children. Isaac has inherited the 3 children of Jane, they are shown as stepson/daughters. I cannot neither find any marriage between Isaac and Jane nor any death of Eleanor Swalwell nee Rowell. The same logic applies to the 1901 census. By the time of the 1911 census Isaac is living in Redcar and is named as the Father-in-law to the head. He dies shortly after the 1911 census as he can’t be found anywhere. I’m hoping someone out there may have different resources to me and can come up with an answer!
