Family History Beginners Board / Thomas Mathews Llangyfelach

Can anyone help please?

I have completed some research into my great grandfather Samuel Mathews ( B1853) and his parents Thomas Mathews ( B1820?) and mother Ann ( B1817, registered deaf). I have Samuel with his parents in the 1861 census ( RG06 Parish 4095 District 90 page number 17) and the censuses that follow that. I do know for certain that the family took a ship to Pennsylvania in 1849 so no UK census for 1851 for them and they returned to the UK probably 1852.

Where I am completely baffled is, where are Samuel's parents in 1841 and also I cannot find any marriage for them or any details of their parents? ?

If anyone can shed any light on this and point me in the right direction I will be thrilled  ;D

Many thanks

Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / Pelham Davies & Hester Garrett
« on: Friday 18 September 15 10:03 BST (UK)  »
Hello

can someone help me - I am really stuck on this one!  :)

I know that my great great great grandfather was Pelham Davies ( worked out from census as born circa 1791) who married Hester Garrett ( worked out from census as born circa 1800) around about 1839. I believe their marriage was in the Oct/Nov/Dec quarter Vol 26 Page 1023. Can anyone find out any more info as I am struggling - I am hoping for place of marriage/possible parents names. I believe Hester was born Lawrenny area and they lived Penally area at some point.

Many thanks

Hello

I have just found a new bit of research on my family and see that my great great great aunt Mary Morris married into the Merriman family - I have the 1901 census where she is home in Warren with her mother ( Esther Morris) and her children Ashley and Muriel but there is no sign of her husband. She is listed as married, not widowed so I was wondering where he may be?

Also, she is listed as a 'rabbit merchant'.....any idea as to what that was?

I welcome any help to get me 'going' on this  :)

Thanks

Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / John Morris Born 1806-1813? Warren or Carew?
« on: Monday 05 August 13 15:10 BST (UK)  »
I have been researching my father's side of the family and a bit stuck. Hoping someone can help me?

I have the name of my great great great great grandfather as John Morris ( I know he married Jane Dawkins in 1827 at Warren church and I do have a copy of 1841 & 1861 census ) no luck with 1851) and know he was living with his son William in 1861 but no sign of his wife Jane?)

I have two queries - what happened to Jane? can't find a death?

Secondly, would love to find more out about John's parents?

Any help would be very welcome ;D

Thanks

Pembrokeshire / Hester Morris ( nee Evans) born 1832
« on: Monday 27 May 13 14:10 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to tie up some loose ends and was wondering if anyone could help me?  ???

Hester Evans born 1832 ( Whitland or Llangan....not sure as it does change from census to census!) married my great great great grandfather William Morris at Warren church in 1851. I have seen the church records and I see that Hester's father is listed as Jeremiah Evans (labourer) but I cannot find anything about him....or indeed her mother. On the marriage record, neither of her parents signed as witnesses.

Any help would be welcome.

Many thanks

Pembrokeshire / Issac Beddoe Born 1815ish Mineware
« on: Tuesday 27 November 12 16:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I am researching my 4xgreat grandfather born I believe in 1815 but it may be as late as 1820 as I have him listed in the 1911 census aged 80 living with his daughter Mary and her husband.

I am trying to establish who he married ( possibly a Mary)? Also he is listed as born in Mineware...where is that?

Any pointers will be helpful to me  ;)

Many thanks

Pembrokeshire / Look up in Monkton - John Lewis Born 1846
« on: Tuesday 27 November 12 15:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am wondering whether anyone can provide any history/knowledge of a John Lewis Born 1846 in Monkton, Pembrokeshire? I believe he married a Margaret Davies B1847 Pembroke Dock ( yet in one census, which one slips my mind( sorry!) his wife is listed as Elizabeth!).

I am trying to find out who his parents were and any other facts about his time in Monkton. Also who exactly his wife was as I am a bit confused.

Many thanks

The Common Room / Ship Nestorian from Liverpool to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1849
« on: Tuesday 30 October 12 15:22 GMT (UK)  »
I have just found that my great great grandfather, his wife and three young children departed on the Ship Nestorian from Liverpool bound for Pennsylvania in Aug 1849.

Can anyone shed any light on what this may have cost them? What the ship may have been like? Why they went (I am guessing that since he is listed as a Collier on the passenger list, he was going there for work?). I know that they had returned to South Wales some 3 years later so I guess their plans did not go well.

Thanks

I am trying to find a possible obituary for Matilda Creed. I know she is buried at Capel Y Glyn, Glynneath in the same grave as her brother Walter Crawley and his wife Elizabeth. Matilda died in June 1897 aged 37 - since she died young I am curious as to how she met her death and any 'history' associated with her at that time?

I would be grateful for any help on this?

Thanks
