Any help is appreciated in trying to find out if these probate records indicate if James Ingram McGowan is the son of the following:

McGOWAN James - 1877
http://archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=22383749

McGOWAN Mary Jane - Greenpark & Ireland - Widow - 1903
http://archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=22388825

I have 2 other links with much extraordinary information from helpful Rootschat members.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

I have another McGowan thread, but as James [Ingram] McGown/McGowan/MACGOWN b. in Greenpark NZ May 23 1878 (as per 1901 Canada Census) cannot be found in NZ records a Roots Chat member suggested this look-up. I have found 3 male McGown/McGowan's but James McGown was b. Nov 1879 and there is a Hugh James and a John McGowan, whom I don't believe is James Ingram McGowan.

James was listed as RC in the census and his children in Canada were listed in the Drouin Collection.

Thank you

New Zealand Completed Requests / McGown/McGowan
« on: Saturday 22 February 14 23:01 GMT (UK)  »
Good Morning.

Various Canadian census give James [Ingram] McGown/McGowan as b. either 1878, 1879, May 23 1879 NZ with a heritage of Scottish and immigration to Canada 1890-1894. His daughter's Canadian birth cert lists James McGowan b. in Greenpark, New Zealand. Yet I cannot find his birth record.

A birth certificate i obtained for James McGown (McGowan) November 15 1878 Oamaru, lists his parents as Margaret McGown age 21 formerly Shea b. Kerry Castle Ireland and James McGown Plasterer age 23 b. Glasgow Scotland. Parents married Jan 13, 1876 Christchurh. I do not think this is my candidate.

I cannot find a NZ birth record for a James McGown/McGowan for May 23 1879 or 78. Only found a Hugh James 1879 & a John 1878.

Thanks for any insight.

Kerry / Place of Birth: Kerry Castle Ireland?
« on: Saturday 22 February 14 16:28 GMT (UK)  »
Good Morning.

A 1878 birth certificate I obtained from New Zealand lists the mother's birth place as Kerry Castle Ireland. I am not sure what this means. I see there are many Castles in County Kerry and can not really find a town of Kerry.

Thanks for any insight.

Private 416929 A.S.G. is listed as Adam Alexander's profession on Marriage cert January 16, 1919. His address was 49 Stafford Street & his wife Alice Fox's address was 121 Richmond Row Liverpool. Adam's father's name was John Alexander (Farmer), his mother was Mary or Maria.

I assume A.S.G. is Scots Guards, but can find nothing on Ancestry or the National Archives.

Any help is appreciated,

« on: Saturday 09 November 13 00:39 GMT (UK)  »
Margaret Mary Fox b. April 19, 1890 at 59 Mabbot Street.
Mother: Margaret Shelly Father: Michael Fox

Catherine Fox b June 27, 1891 d, March 1, 1893 at 57 Mabbot Street.
Mother: Margaret Shelly Father: Michael Fox
Glasnevin death Testimony: Nicholas Fox. Glasnevin record lists Catherine as: Daughter of a Stevedore

Alicia (Alice) Fox b. September 21, 1894 at 12 Grand Canal
Mother: Margaret Shelly Father: Nicholas Fox (baptism record)
Married Adam Alexander 1919
Father listed as Michael Fox on marriage certificate (deceased Coal Dealer Foreman)

Mother Margaret Shelly (Fox) married Nicholas Fox 1885 when her parents lived at 57 Mabbot Street
She died Oct 18, 1894 at 12 Grand Canal and is in the same family grave at Glasnevin as Catherine Fox. Glasnevin records list her as wife of Stevedore. Civil Registration Dublin lists “Husband is Foreman for Wallace Brown”
Glasnevin death testimony: Nicholas Fox

I have many records but I can't move past whether Nicholas and Michael Fox are the same person and therefore these 3 girls are sisters.

Buckinghamshire / Trying to find abandoned children 1911
« on: Saturday 24 August 13 03:49 BST (UK)  »
In 1892, Kate Farmer 21 and John Henry Bull 19 married at St. Georges Hanover Square London. Witnesses were Edwin and Elizabeth Clark (nee Farmer, sister of Kate). They had 4 children all born on Jersey.

By 1911:
1.   One child had died (1906) and the other 3 were living in the various households.
2.   Kate Bull (Farmer) b. May 17, 1871 in Paddington London cannot be found. Kate’s father: Robert William Farmer died Jun 1932 in Eton, Buckinghamshire, England
3.   John Henry Bull had abandoned his family, moved to Canada and remarried in July 1911 under the surname Ball (have evidence).

The children:
1.   Edith Alice Bull b. 1892; died in Eton 1906 of TB and peritonitis:
2.   Lilian R Bull b. 1896; listed as a visitor of John and Mary Love in Southall 1911 census
3.   Daisy Ladysmith Bull; b. 1900 was listed in the 1911 census in Slough as the niece of Elizabeth Mary Clarke (Farmer) and Edwin Ryman Clarke
4.   John James Bull b. Oct 29, 1897 was listed in the 1911 census as a boarder of the Houchins in Stockbury Kent and subsequently changed his surname to Houchin.

I am in contact with John James Houchin’s (Bull) granddaughter. We share John Henry Bull, but my grandmother is John Henry Bull’s (Ball) 2nd wife. We have been working to find the remaining of this family for 3 years and always hit a roadblock.

Any suggestion would help,
Best regards,
Alleson from Canada.

Dublin / Information appreciated for Fox/Shelly & Shelly/Whitty families
« on: Saturday 22 June 13 02:54 BST (UK)  »
Margaret Fox b. April 19 1889-1893 was born in Dublin to Nicholas Fox (deceased by 1919, Master Mariner) & mother unknown. I am trying to confirm or dismiss the following family as my ancestors:

Persons on Nicholas Fox Jan 25, 1885 marriage registration include:
Groom: Nicholas Fox (1858) b. at 127 Townsend St to parents Julia Byrne & William Fox
Bride: Margaret Shelly & parents Margaret Dolan & Thomas Shelly (Skelly)
Witness: James Shelly.

In 1885 at 33 Mabbot Street lived: Nicholas Fox & Margaret Shelley, also James Shelly & his wife Anne Whitty & 1st child Mary Margaret.
James & Anne Shelly subsequently had 4 more children Margaret Mary, Joseph Patrick, Margaret, & James at various addresses of: 82 Innisfallen Parade, 10 Stephens Street, 141 Stephens Road, & 4 Grenville Street

In 1885 at 57 Mabbot, lived: Thomas Shelly & Marg’t Dolan, Margaret Shelly’s parents.

In 1890 at 59 Mabbot: Marg’t Mary Fox was b. April 19th to Margaret Shelly (Fox); however, the father is listed as Michael Fox, not Nicholas.

In 1891 at 57 Mabbot where Margaret Shelly’s (Fox) parents lived another child was b. Catherine Fox to Michael and Marg’t Fox.

I cannot fathom how Margaret Shelly (addresses & parents confirmed) married Nicholas Fox in 1885 with all the characters at their wedding and then she gave birth to 2 children whose father is listed as Michael Fox (whom no records exist for marriage or other).

I would like to know if this Margaret Mary Fox b. April 19, 1890 to Margaret Shelly & father Michael Fox is my grandmother, whose father is known as Nicholas Fox & mother unknown.

Thank you

I have made an assumption through a family tree that my 2nd ggrandmother Mary Corrie (b. 1817 Edinburgh) is the daughter of Clementina Blair Ross (b. 1801 Midlothian) & Thomas Corrie (b. 1791 Midlothian).

This assumption is related to the similarity of name to her child Clementina Ross Stewart (b. 1848 Twynholme, Kircudbright) daughter of (George Stewart, 1814-1893).

I believe this is so, but have no evidence, except of Mary Corrie's husband and children as per Burke's & the Peerage.com.

Best regards,
allesond
