Yorkshire (West Riding) / Mabel Todd & Cracoe School 1922.
« on: Monday 30 January 12 19:55 GMT (UK)  »
This photograph relates to two previous posts relating to Mabel Todd of Lothersdale & possibly, in latter life, Cracoe.

This was a photograph sent to Mabel in 1922 showing Cracoe School.

The teacher is too young to be Mabel but it might show some of her relations.

Can anyone identify anyone in the photograph?

Is there a connection between Cracoe School & Mabel Todd?

Thanking you in anticipation.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Mabel Todd & Lothersdale AFC 1905?
« on: Monday 30 January 12 19:48 GMT (UK)  »
This photograph relates to a previous post looking for information about Mabel Todd of Lothersdale.

It had been sent to her in May 1905.

Does anyone recognize the team from the Lothersdale/Keighley area or can name any of the players as they might be related to Mabel.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Mabel Todd of Lothersdale & Swinden Quarry.
« on: Monday 30 January 12 19:35 GMT (UK)  »
I an researching Mabel Todd & her family who lived at Brook Terrace, Lothersdale in 1881.

Wedding Hall Fold, Lothersdale, in 1891.

High Fold, Lothersdale in 1901.

I believe she became a school teacher in Lothersdale & her father moved from working in the quarry in Lothersdale, possibly Raygill to work at Swinden Quarry Linton/Threshfield.

She may have retired to Cracoe.

I have a lot of material that could be related but once again I am trying to put flesh on the bones.

The photographs possibly show Mabel & her husband in retirement in the Cracoe area.

Any help outside searches on Ancestry or findmypast would be very welcome.

Thanking you in advance.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Grassington School 1914 Part 4
« on: Sunday 29 January 12 16:11 GMT (UK)  »
This post relates to the previous posts Grassington School 1914 Part 1,2 & 3.

In the center is Mary Chapman along with Hilda, Denis & May Gill. There is also Kit Bownas, Kit Jacques & G. Griffin.

Let's hope we can add some background information to the pupils attending Grassington school, just one month after the start of World War One.

I wonder how many will loose family members over the next four years.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Grassington School 1914. Part 1.
« on: Sunday 29 January 12 15:22 GMT (UK)  »
In August 1914 Grassington School posed for the School Photograph and the Headmistress at the time, Mrs Chapman wrote the names of most of the pupils underneath and there are so many local names that one instantly recognises. Three of the photograph's have no name & one has a name crossed out. Some of the pictures correspond to other studio photographs I have of the time taken By Grimshawe brothers of Grassington.

Does anyone recognize the children with the names missing?

Are there any relatives, of the pupils who read this forum, who would like to provide me with some background information about the children of Grassington School from 1914.

The size of the photograph, on two pages, means that it has to be scanned in 4 pieces. I will post each part as a separate post to make responses more manageable.

The first Photograph has Dorothy & Margaret Easterby as a center piece & contains the missing/crossed out pictures.

Names are Mrs Chapman, Jos Cousins (crossed out), Allan Stephenson, Hilda Pattinson, Geo. Benson, Evelyn Blagden, Geo. Easterby, Cyril Walmsley, UNKNOWN, H Griffin, Bertie Hill, Hannah Stubbs, Mary Chapman, Marjory Blagden, Florie Nichols, Edna Darwin, UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN, Charlie Smith, Reggie Richmond & Mary Ibbotson. Mary Bownas, Dora Ibbotson, Kathleen Beckwith, H. Ibbotson & Ed. S Percival also appear on the next post as I have had to crop scans to fit in with upload sizes.

Thanking you in advance.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Dales Photographer's - Grimshawe & Curtis
« on: Tuesday 24 January 12 19:57 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to record the history of Dale's Photographers, but background information is difficult to find, so I am hoping members reading this post may be able to help.

The Grimshawe Brothers of Grassington, Percy & Marcus, were established photographers at the turn of the 20th Century but little is known about them except what can be gleaned from census records. I believe Percy was the driving force and he lived with mother Alice in Grassington. They had a studio in Station Road.

William Curtis of Kilnsey is even more of an unknown. He seemed to be producing his 'Curtis of Kilnsey Series' of Postcards from around 1910 & disappears from the scene from around 1920.

Photographs & postcards produced by these photographers are prolific & yet very little is known about them or their lives.

It's now over to you to fill in the missing history.

Thanking you in advance.
