Canada / Quebec - St. Antoine-de-Tilly
« on: Saturday 27 April 24 02:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi - I have a branch of my family that comes from St. Antoine-de-Tilly according to the Drouin records.  I'm hoping to get to Quebec in May; I am wondering if this church still exists?  Any info would be appreciated especially since I don't speak French!
Thank you, Lisa

Lancashire / Bentley family - looking for explanation on confusing baptism dates
« on: Tuesday 15 August 17 01:21 BST (UK)  »
I've been filling in my Bentley tree and have found a few baptisms that dates conflict.  Perhaps someone can shed some light on this and offer a possible explanation?

Here goes:  I found the following Baptisims on lan-opc

Baptism: 24 Nov 1832 Hallfold Chapel, Whitworth, Lancashire, England
John Bentley - [Child] of Richard Bentley & Grace (formerly Briearly)
    Born: 6 Aug 1832
    Abode: Bridge Mill
    Occupation: Engeneer
    Baptised by: Wm Gibson
    Register: Baptisms 1820 - 1837, Page 17
    Source: LDS Film 1482384

Baptism: 1 Dec 1833 St Bartholomew, Whitworth, Lancashire, England
Samuel Bentley - [Child] of Richard Bentley & Grace
    Abode: Bridge Mill
    Occupation: Engineer
    Baptised by: J. Gaitskell
    Register: Baptisms 1813 - 1838 from the Bishop's Transcripts, Page 155, Entry 1236
    Source: LDS Film 1545948

Baptism: 12 Jan 1834 St Bartholomew, Whitworth, Lancashire, England
John Bates Bentley - [Child] of Richard Bentley & Grace
    Abode: Bridge Mill
    Occupation: Engineer
    Baptised by: J. Gaitskell
    Register: Baptisms 1813 - 1838 from the Bishop's Transcripts, Page 156, Entry 1241
    Source: LDS Film 1545948

So obviously searching for children of Richard Bentley and Grace (Brierly).  Have other children but these were the confusing ones. First child, John, born Aug 1832, baptized Nov 1832, 7 months after their marriage.  Makes sense.  Next child, Samuel, baptized Dec of 1833; not sure when he was born, but also makes sense.  Next baptism i see if for another John (perhaps first John died?) baptized Jan 1834. So...how/why are two children baptized 6 weeks apart?  I don't see evidence of another Richard an Grace living in Bridge Mill w/occupation Engineer.

Thanks for any explanations, Lisa

Canada / Trying to find McKendrick family in 1870 in PEI
« on: Sunday 03 April 16 21:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am back to researching my McKendrick ancestors in PEI. The particular branch I am looking at now is at follows:

Hugh McKendrick b-abt 1815, PEI
wife Penelope (Penzie) b-ant 1817
  children Mary - 1848
               Margaret (Maggie)-1850
               Catherine - 1854
               Edward - 1853
               Janie - 1856
               William - 1859
               John L. - 1862
               Penelope - 1863
Children are born in PEI.  The family emigrates to Taunton, MA in 1872 according to the 1900 census.  I see the family in Taunton in 1900, 1910 and some of the children in future census's. I'm trying to locate the family in PEI in 1870 or earlier to confirm children, etc.  Can anyone see them??

Thanks as always, Lisa

Canada / Stewart Presbyterian baptisms in Bass River, Kent Co.
« on: Saturday 19 September 15 02:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi - I recently received some info handed down from a distant family member on my Stewart family. I would like to verify his information as I have not been able to find and record of births for this family myself. And I have not been able to get in touch with this person (he may no longer be alive) to ask where he got these records.

In his tree he states as his source: "Presbytery of Miramichi/Bass River Church Records (F-1133) Malcolm, William, Daniel, Jessie and Albert were all baptized on November 1, 1880.  New Brunswick Provincial Archives - Presbyterians."

He also references that the family worshiped at St. Marks in Bass River.

I have sent an email (I am in the US) to PANB asking if they can help, but have not heard back.
Thanks for any help. Lisa

Canada / Fortier family in 1881
« on: Wednesday 06 March 13 04:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - I'm trying to find the following family in 1881:

Joseph,b-abt 1853 & Odile Fortier, b-1854
children - M. Louise, b-1875; St. Hermenegilde
              M. Adela, b-1877; St. Hermenegilde
              M. Victoria,  b-1879, Sherbrooke
For the records, I have pretty much all records for this family; just trying to find them in 1881. I did find a similiar family, parents anyway, in Sherbrooke, but the children were totally wrong. Can anyone find them?

Thanks so much, Lisa

Canada / Catholic Parish's in Iroquios Falls
« on: Sunday 03 March 13 03:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - I am trying to find parish records for Catholic churches in Iroquois Falls from 1916 to 1921. I'm looking for any children born to Henry Fortier & Marie Goulet. They came to Iroquois Falls from St. Romuald sometime after 1916. Marie died after childbirth in 1921 and I'm sure they had a few children between the time she dies and the last child born in St. Romuald in 1916. Just trying to figure out where to look.

Thanks!  Lisa

Lancashire / Records for Hallfold after 1837?
« on: Thursday 14 February 13 15:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - I am trying to find bap. records for a number of my Bentley's in Rochdale. Out of 10 kids, children of William & Mary, I have found 5 baptisms; they were found at St. Chads, Hallfold (thanks Mo!) and Christ Church; years 1829 - 1841.

The ones that I haven't been able to locate are: John Schofield Bentley-1835, Richard-1844/1845, Amelia & Eli-1847 & Helena-1849. I have found the births (except for Richard - nothing!) registered on LancBMD.

So my question is if/where they might have been baptised. Since Mo found the bap. for Peggy at Hallfold but can't find records there after 1837, would anyone know where later records might be found? Someone did check for me at St. Chad's and they weren't there.

Perhaps they just didn't baptise these later kids?

And regarding Richard, I saw several registrations for Richard's, but discounted several after finding different parents thru lan-opc. The others would be Haslingden and Bolton.  Would any of these make sense before I order cert?

Thanks as always for your help, Lisa

Lancashire / Parish's in Rochdale
« on: Tuesday 12 February 13 18:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - does anyone have a suggestion as to Parish's to look for records if they are not found at St. Chad's or St. Bartholmew's in Whitworth? They would be living in Bridge Mill so something in that area? For example, in 1847 Amelia and Eli Bentley.  I see their registration on LancashireBMD; just trying to see where/if they were baptized.  Same with some of their siblings.

Thanks as always, Lisa
