Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Can anyone date this photo?
« on: Wednesday 07 September 16 20:09 BST (UK)  »
This photo is supposed to be of my great-great grandparents from County Cork. That's what I was told, but I have a relative in Ireland who said she doesn't think it could be them, because it would be somewhere between 1855 and 1865 when it was taken. She said it wasn't likely that people from their rural area would have gone to a studio and had a portrait taken in that time period. My relative says it's probably a wedding picture of one of their children, taken twenty years later, around 1880. Can anyone help me date it? And does this look like a wedding picture from that time? Thanks.

John

Mayo / McDonnell
« on: Wednesday 29 May 13 19:00 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I'm looking for information about McDonnells from County Mayo. Others in my family have done some research and found a birth record dating to 1830 for a John McDonnell in Foxford, County Mayo. His wife was Margret Mulroy, born in 1835 in County Mayo. Their children were Patrick, Bridget, Eneas, Agnes, Mary, Helen, and Margret. I would like to find out more information about where the family came from in Ireland, because I'll be visiting there this summer. Don't know where to start, so I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Offaly (Kings) / O'Farrell and Guilfoyle in Parsonstown
« on: Saturday 31 March 12 22:14 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I'm trying to research my mother's grandfather, a man named Peter O'Farrell. I don't know much about him except that he emigrated to Philadelphia PA around 1880 and that his mother was named Rose Guilfoyle (not sure about the spelling). He had a sister named Delia. I can't seem to find any birth records on Peter, but I found a marriage for Rose Guilfoyle in Parsonstown in 1867. There's no husband listed, just her name and the date. Just wondering if anyone can give me any tips on how to research this further.

Cork / Burchill in Skibbereen
« on: Saturday 25 February 12 21:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hello:

I'm interested in the Burchill family that came from Skibbereen, County Cork. The townland is Gorteenalomane. My great grandmother Kate Burchill came to Philadelphia in the 1870s and never returned to Ireland. She eventually helped to bring a brother and three sisters over to Philadelphia, but there was a brother and a sister who stayed home on the family farm in Ireland. In the 1901 Irish Census the Burchill family lists three children in the U.S., but not Kate. They seemed to have lost touch with her, and she with them. I'm interested in tracing the history of the Burchills who remained in Ireland because I'd love to connect with them. Kate had a brother Samuel Burchill (born in 1879) who may have had children. There doesn't seem to be any Irish Census data after 1911, so I can't locate him. Does anybody have advice or tips on a situation like this? Also, I can't find any information on Kate's husband Peter O'Farrell, who my mother says also came from County Cork. Any help would be appreciated it.
