Kent / St Alfege Greenwich Font
« on: Thursday 21 March 24 10:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hello - can anyone tell me if the font currently used in the St Alfege church is the original (or used from 1780-1870) one? I am aware that the interior was gutted by WW2 bombing, and restored, but not sure of the extent of the restoration. while i have found basic info online, I can't find any history books or old illustrations of the church. i have a branch of my Paxton and Clarkson family married, baptised and buried there. Cheers, Louise

George Gordon Wise born 3rd Jan1823 in Tasmania to George and Elizabeth Day. Married Mary Sanders or Saunders in Adelaide 1847. Divorced 1868. appears to have been living in Victoria in 1867. Incorrectly noted as deceased on daughter Amy's marriage registration. A colourful life, lived in WA, SA, VIC and also Java, Indonesia. can anyone find his death? not memorialised on any of his children's graveyard details.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Paul Eugene Fer court case
« on: Saturday 10 June 23 03:33 BST (UK)  »
Dear fellow researchers - I am researching on behalf of a friend who has a family tree containing  Paul Eugene Fer (originally from Switzerland) who was a merchant. In February/March of 1921 he was charged, and bailed, over the death of William Henry Pool. The Fer family and the Poole family lived at Mapledurwell, Hampshire. Paul Fer was acquitted in July 1921.

I could not find any reference to the death of William Poole in newspapers, although his death is there in Hampshire burials. Since Paul Fer was originally charged with 'slaying' him, I would have expected something there, at least with Paul's court case and acquittal.

can anyone help?

Derry (Londonderry) / location of Woods Churchyard - near Magherafelt ?
« on: Friday 25 March 22 09:52 GMT (UK)  »
Dear fellow researchers - I am having difficulty in finding information about my WHITE family. They (sons and daughters of James White (1791 - 1875) and Hannah Galley 1796 - 1881) are in Donegal, but there are many other placenames such as Magherfelt and Ballymultrea and Calhane. A son, James White was buried at "Woods Churchyard" - can anyone tell me where that is?
The White Family were farmers.

Dear clever decipherers -

I am researching the sad life of Annie Marie Louise Loridan (married name Clarkson). her mother's family seems to have had mental health issues running through the females, and Annie was placed in a mental institution from 1908 (shorter periods before) - apparently until her death in 1944 for " drunkenness and neglect of household duties" - the reason her husband divorced her.

I have recieved 2 partial pages of the Goodna Case book - the writing is a challenge.
any help would be much appreciated!

Lancashire / Kay Street in (Little) Bolton - any pics in 1860, 70?
« on: Friday 30 April 21 03:56 BST (UK)  »
Dear researchers - I am writing a family history story about my 4th great grandfather, Moses Scott. he lived in Kay street, Bolton from about 1820 until 1860. I would love to find some drawing or old photo, but despite a lot of searching, I can't find a thing online! (well, a fragment of one photo 1971 with a view of terrace houses) does anyone have a link, or some new ideas for searching? I have looked up the street in the British newspaper archive and in the censuses - it features a diverse range of occupations and buildings - mostly pubs and beerhouses. this street was totally demolished over quite a period and is now part of the A666.

Durham / where is Ivy Robson in 1939?
« on: Friday 19 February 21 12:32 GMT (UK)  »
Dear researchers, I have a real puzzle here and I wonder if anyone can help me.

This lady, born Ivy Robson, is my husband's maternal grandmother and born 1915 in Auckland, Durham. I don't have her birth cert. her parents were Robert Henry Robson and Mary Jane Ball.
Ivy had three daughters out of wedlock:  Ivy died in 1973.

there is a family rumour that Ivy had a boyfriend/partner named Alfred. In 1942 an Ivy Robson married Alfred Parker Place. I don't know if this is my Ivy - but the other Ivy Places appear to be accounted for. she married John Hutchinson under her maiden name of Robson - but that may mean nothing.

I am trying to find her, and her daughters, in the 1939 census. It is very possible they were living at seperate locations, with a different surname, or maybe together. they are not with Ivy's parents.

an uncle, Joseph Robson, married to Ruth Stephenson has 4 closed records in the 1939 census and two children named, if these are three of those blanked out names, then the 4th could be one of Ivy's children.

None of Ivy's other brothers or sisters appear to have Ivy's children living with them. If they were with relatives, it is more likely they have their own surname.

I can't find Ivy in the 1939 census as Robson or Place. I may have more luck if I knew her birth date though.

any ideas?

Australia / Arthur Adam CARLTON
« on: Saturday 19 December 20 09:11 GMT (UK)  »
hello everyone - I have a surprise DNA match to Arthur Adam CARLTON who appears to have been born in 1864 (place unknown) and died 9 JAN 1924 • Ringarooma, Bass, Tasmania, Australia. although not a strong match, the many matches in common are very significant for me and my brother who also matches. It appears to further my Clarkson line and I am very keen to persue it.

Arthur first comes to light marrying Muriel Teresa O'Brien (1889 - 1970) in 1912 in Tasmania. From then on, his life is fairly well documented. However his early life is a mystery. I suspect he may have changed his name, or re-invented himself - the only lead I may have to his age is an appointment as a special constable, with an age of 36 in 1900 - but this is not certain, and may be a red herring.

Arthur Carlton's will had no information on his background in it.
His wife Muriel inherited his business share and then married his business partner after his death.
no family trees with more info than mine.

I have researched an 'Adam Matthewson Carlton' - but this was a false lead.
I have researched Arthur Carlton born 1879 with parents Joseph and Mary - not this one.

I could apply for a death cert but they are very expensive (also may not have reliable info on it) - it is possible the marriage cert may be of more assistance. can't find anything on the tasmanian records yet.
