London and Middlesex / John Frederick Butler

Looking for help trying to trace John Frederick Butler. I have very little information. He would have been born around 1900 and married Ellen Lee in St Pancras in 1929, they had a child Helen in February 1930, His occupation at the time was a boot and shoe salesman. They were divorced around 1932 and the divorce was registered at Marylebone Court.
Any help would be appreciated.

South Africa / Colin and Kathleen Lewis emigrated in 1958 - where are they now?

I'm looking for information regarding Colin Shaw (b.1925) and his wife K (b.1930's Derbyshire UK. They emigrated to South Africa on 6th Feb 1958 on the Athlone Castle from Southampton to Durban. I believe they may have owned an orange farm near Johannesburg. I unable how to trace them or their relatives, can anyone assist>

Essex Lookup Requests / Henry Smith born 1820 Maldon - how can I find out about him and his parents?

I'm trying to find details of the parents of Henry Smith who was born in Maldon, Essex in about 1820. The only information I have is that he had siblings Mary and John and his father may have been James Smith, a currier.
He married Sophia Hunsdon in 1841 at St. Luke, Old Street. Surely this church is in London. Any idea why anyone would marry there when they lived in Essex?
I have caught up with them in the 1841 census living at High Street, Havering atte Bower Liberty, Essex and later they move to 132 Union Street, St Saviour Southwark.
Sophia was born about 1820 in Romford, her parents were John and Louisa Hunsdon.
I don't know when they died.
I would love to trace my ancesters back further but I have hit a dead end. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received. Many thanks

Derbyshire / Alexander Barker Ridgeway 1806

I've got myself in a bit of pickle regarding the parents of Alexander Barker born in the Ridgeway 1806. I can't find records of his parents but have found him on various 'trees' on the net with varying parentage!
What I do know is that he married Martha Holmes (whom I haven't researched yet) and they had a son Alexander who married Mary Sharman (the line that I am interested in).
Any help would be appreciated.

James Lewis born 1913 in Eckington, Derbyshire - where can I find information about what he did in WW2?

Any help would be appreciated regarding James Lewis. He was born in 1913 in Halfway, Eckington, Derbyshire to Francis (Frank) and Fanny Lewis nee Valance. He married Joyce Barker on 21st April 1934, she was with child. His occupation was given as colliery fitter below ground. I do not know how long they were married but in 1956 he was living without her at 48 Woodbury Road, Foley Park, Kidderminster, Worcestershire. His occupation was 'teacher of pure and applied mathematics and mechanics.'
Is there any way I can find out whether they divorced and what happened to James? Also, it would be interesting to find out how he went for a colliery fitter to a teacher!

Nottinghamshire / William Lewis, Broxtowe Mansfield

I have come to an abrubt halt on William Lewis who was born in 1801 or 1803 in Mansfield Broxtoe (north division). On the census returns I have been unable to read his address or occupation. I know he married Anne Slack in 1834. Do you think I have any chance, and if so how, of finding their parents?
Another query is that all his decendants were coal miners from Mansfield and Eckington in Derbyshire. Would I be able to find any references as to where they worked?

London and Middlesex / Lost Padfield in Lambeth!

I am trying to trace the death of Joyce S Padfied whom I believe was born in the Sheffield area around 1917. I am not aware of her maiden name although I do know that she married a James Lewis (who was a teacher in Kidderminster in 1956) and they had a daughter (*) 1934/1935 in that area. I cannot find a marriage to a Padfield BUT from 1956 - 1961 she is in the London Electorial Archives as Joyce S PADFIELD living at 4 Angell Road, SW9 and then at 6 Studwick Court, Binfield Road, Stockwell with an Idris Sydney Padfield. (*) lived with them for a year before she married (*). I have found the death for Idris in 2004 in Lambeth. Has anybody got any ideas of how I can find out when she divorced James, whom she married, to become a Padfield and when/where she died? She seems to have just disappeared!
