Other Countries / Greek surname Moudouridou any info please
« on: Monday 16 December 13 11:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have established that one of my relatives married in UK a female with surname Moudouridou (most likely a Greek surname)  in 1948.
There are records for their children but that's were the trail currently ends.

I have no contact with the other part of the family relations as yet, still searching for them but wondered if anyone has any further info on the Greek surname.

The name appears no where on the web that I can see and although I don't really expect to be doing any searches in Greece I just wondered if there was any info from those of you on here.

Appreciate that due to the year of their marriage and the relatives birth year there is a chance they may still be living so please PM me if you have any specific info (as per rules on rootschat)
but any general info on surname etc. please post here

thanks homer

World War One / military uniform identification and dating please.
« on: Wednesday 04 December 13 10:37 GMT (UK)  »
hi

Would someone be able to identify the uniform being worn in this photo please.

Its the same photo but I have put in two attachments as one is a slightly better copy than the other.
I do need to get a better photo copy so may post that later tomorrow if it helps.

The family is from Wexford Ireland but some moved across to England so I guess this could be a uniform from either.

I have a surname for the one relative in the photo that I am researching and hope to establish soon a first name and then to explore the military side if possible.

have had some great help off of this site before so heres hoping for some more.

Wexford / birth/baptism records for children of John and Anastasia French Wexford
« on: Saturday 23 November 13 12:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

It's a year since I was last on here and during that time have managed to find and meet with 3 related cousins and had contact with other relatives as part of my family research and some of the great info gathered from this forum.

Furthering my research I am trying to find the birth / baptism records for the children of John and Anastasia French from Wexford (my grandparents)
Specifically my father's twin who died not long after birth.

I already have details of John and Anastasia marriage births etc. (care of 'Shorts' posts on here) on my previous post 'looking for family, surname French or Hayden'

details I have so far:

Anastasia Hayden married John French on 2 February 1908 per the Rowe St church parish register.

I have established that my father had a twin although she died not long after birth so I am interested in find anything in church records on this.
my father was Thomas French born 30/08/1924 Wexford
as his mother and father marriage entry is in Rowe St church register (as above) I assume their children would also be in that register.
I have been told by another relative that she remembers seeing the entry in a church record in Wexford showing my father's and twins birth some years ago when they visited Wexford.

I know they had the following children (not necessarily in birth order) so looking for dates from 1908 onwards for births with surname French and mothers maiden name Hayden.

Thomas born 30/08/1924 plus twin girl who died not long after birth
(so also looking for register of death possibly up to a year later)

Ronald born 08/04/1928
Kath (could be Katherine)
May
John
Peter George
Mary Ann
Ellen (died aged approx 2 years)
Mary Theresa
Anastasia

Dumfriesshire / looking for death of James Fitzgerald Gretna Green
« on: Tuesday 05 March 13 19:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I wondered if anyone could establish if a James Fitzgerald died in the Gretna Green area.
James was born 1859 in Wexford Ireland and had moved to Gretna Green by 1916, I would like to establish if he remained in the Gretna area as I have not been able to trace his death in Ireland.

He would be 57 in 1916 and we know he was still alive then (as per his daughter's wedding cert 1916) which has him residing in Gretna.
His daughter was a niece to my great grandfather.

Not yet done any research in the Scotland area so not sure what resources might be available but always get a good response off of rootschat for stuff like this, so heres hoping.

Canada / help finding marriage of Cicely HINCHEY Glace Bay Cape Breton
« on: Sunday 27 January 13 18:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Wondered if anyone in the Canada forum could assist please.

One of my relatives, surname probably Owens married a Cicely Anne Hinchey in Glace Bay, Cape Breton on 16 July 1914.
The piece of paper I have found this information on is not complete so I am missing the name of which member of the family it was :-(
It is possible that it was a William Owens (Owen) born 11 April 1892

I will start looking for information to see if William or who in the familly may have travelled to Canada from Birkenhead North West United Kingdom but in the mean time I wondered if there is anything that can be searched for marriages occuring in Glace Bay (which seems to have only had a population of around 16,500 - 17,000 between 1911 and 1921) so I expect one of the extra 500 people would have been one of my relatives :-)

I am not sure if this sort of detailed marriage information is available at all or even on line for Glace Bay.

looking forward to any info, clues, or guides you may be able to find for me.

thanks

Armed Forces / a couple of photos for dating please - military uniforms
« on: Sunday 27 January 13 14:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

As part of my family history research, I have come across the following pictures that I could do with some suggestions on dates please.

Both photos contain a military uniform which may well help.

The first photo I'm thinking is around either 1896, 1902 or 1914 that's assuming the child in the photo is around 3 years old and would then match to his parents. This photo is on normal photo paper.

The second photo I'm not sure about due to the military uniform, this photo is on card but doesn't seem to be the post card type as there is not printing on the back.

your expert help please.

Ireland / census occupations - how to research further please?
« on: Monday 03 December 12 11:56 GMT (UK)  »
hi

having had a great response on recent posts on the wexford topics, I am looking for guidance on following up further research into occupations identified on the census records. I realise some occupations may be easier to follow than others so looking at those which where farmers and blacksmiths and shoemakers.

I have relatives identified as

master farmer in wexford 1901 census
district: kilpatrick
townland: kereight lowes (lower)
parish: tikillin
barony: shilmalier east (not quite sure on spelling from census record but think it should be Shelmalier)
all taken from census record detailing farmsteading etc. with 9 buildings identified including barn potatioe house etc.

upate 1 - i have noticed that kereight comes up in the middle of a field in google maps and there is a large farm not too far away north east of the middle of the field.
not sure what sort of area Shelmalier east would cover though.

blacksmith wexford 1901 census living in fishers row
shoemaker wexford 1901 census living in fishers row

thanks homerj
