Hi everyone,

Would there be anyone researching the family of Robert HOLT, b. 1839 Withernwick, son of Martin Holt & Mary Mainprize and who was living in Hull from about 1857 to his death, sometime after 1911.  He was married to Elizabeth and their 6 children were - Ann 1857, Robert William 1866, Charles Martin 1868, John 1870, Mary Ann 1871 and Alice Maud 1873.  Robert was a bricklayer.
Would love to find a connection.

Thanks,

Midlothian / 1869 Accident
« on: Wednesday 07 February 07 07:28 GMT (UK)  »
I have a relative, aged 17 who died on  the 27 Sep 1869 after having his arm amputated at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh.  He was a baker's apprentice in Leith.  I have received a little information from the Lothian Health Services Archives but am wondering if one is able to access newspapers for that year.

Fife / Schooling 1840
« on: Wednesday 27 December 06 05:43 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out what school was like in the 1840s please.  My family was in St. Andrews.  Did children attend school at age 5 years?  Did they attend for 6 hours a day?  Was education free or was it only for those who could afford to pay?

Thanks,

Angus (Forfarshire) / Thomas BROWN Barbara INNES
« on: Tuesday 10 January 06 09:52 GMT (UK)  »
Thomas BROWN and Barbara INNES were married on the 21 Jan. 1855 at Mains & Strathmartine, Angus.  In 1881 they were living at Emmock Farm House, Mains, Forfar.
I'm curious about the name Emmock.  Can anyone shed any light on the name?  And would the farm still be in existance today?

Midlothian / Royal Edinburgh Asylum

Hi,

Would anybody know if patient records are available for the Royal Edinburgh Asylum covering the year 1880.
David Dickson Way died there after suffering general paralysis for 2 years.  He was a Chief Mate in the Merchant Services and I'm wondering if he may have had some sort of accident.
