Dorset / Martha Legg of Stalbrige, England
« on: Tuesday 19 January 16 07:36 GMT (UK)  »
I am hoping someone will be able to help me with a dead end line. Martha Legg was, I believe, born abt 1821 in Stalbridge, Dorset, England. This I am not yet able to prove. I have no idea who her parents are and wonder if you have access any birth records that would show. She married Robert Bugg (son of Thomas Bugg and Elizabeth Shepherd, can't follow this line any farther yet either) in 1818. I think the family would be shown together in the 1841 and 1851 census. If you could find me transcripts of these records and who the rest of the family was, I would be very grateful. There seems to be some indication that Martha died in 1859. Robert died in 1865. Their daughter Mary Ann is my GGG-grandmother.

Any help in tracking down this seemingly elusive Legg family is much appreciated. Hailey

Can someone do a colorization of this picture? I know it's not a very high resolution picture, but it's what I have.

Could someone tell me approximately when this picture is from and a guess on how old the lady in the picture is? I think it is possibly my GGG-Grandmother Catherine Elizabeth Dunlap. She was born in 1869 and was living in Peoria at the birth of her daughter in 1896 and also was there for the 1900 census. I have no idea when she moved there or exactly when she left.

Also if someone was interested in doing a restoration or colorization I would enjoy it. I don't know anything about restoring old pictures, but I've seen some of the work done on this forum and I must say I was pretty impressed.

Thank you for your help!

Australia / George Sanford Convict Records
« on: Sunday 05 January 14 05:53 GMT (UK)  »
My ancestor, George Sanford, was transported to Western Australia in 1852. That is the last I can find of him. Below is what I have found in the England records. Can anyone find, or tell me how to find, what ever became of him? Did he die there, or was his sentence mitigated or ???? I'd appreciate any help.

Born 1818 (or 1821)
Had two bastard sons by Eliza Stokes, one of whom is my GGG-Grandfather
July 3, 1849 - Tried and convicted of larceny, sentenced to 1 year in prison
March 13,1851 - Tried and convicted of burglary, sentenced to transportation for life. Dorchester Prison
April 26, 1851 - Removed to Millbank, No. 26
April 30 1852 - one of 212 convicts transported on the William Jardine to Western Australia

England / Trying to find parents of Augustine Thomasson
« on: Wednesday 01 January 14 08:49 GMT (UK)  »
My ggg-grandfather, Augustine (Austin, August) Joseph Thomasson was born in Dec 1839 or 1840. He has a sister Teresa (Thressie) Thomasson Bisbee born May 14, 1847. I am pretty sure she was born in Chorlton, Lancashire as I found a FreeBMD record that seems to match.

Augustine and Teresa both emigrated to the USA; Augustine shows emigrating in 1856, I assume they came together since they were later living together, but not necessarily. I think their father may be the Abraham Thomason I found on familysearch in the 1841 census living in Chorlton on Medlock. But I don't know for sure.

I have the two siblings fairly well documented in the US from 1875 on. At that point, Teresa is married to Guerdon Bisbee and Augustine is living with them. Augustine married Mary Callahan in 1876 and they had 8 children: Abraham, Mary, Agnes, Helen, Emma, Sayda (Sarah), Joseph and John Francis (Frank). Augustine died in 1916.

But I have nothing going backward. Any help would be much appriciated.

Mayo / No idea where to start!
« on: Saturday 27 April 13 08:35 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find information on my ggg-grandmother Mary Callahan born July 1853 in Ireland. Unfortunately that is all I know. She immigrated to the United States in 1871 and married Austin (August) Thomasson. They had 8 children and ultimately ended up in Missouri.

I have the family pretty well documented in the US, but have no idea how to find anything beyond that. The family believes she was from the Dublin area, but no proof of that. Any ideas?

England / James Probert b. about 1783
« on: Tuesday 09 April 13 07:53 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has an idea on how to get over my worst brick wall. Here is the information that I have.

James Probert was born c. 1783 in England. He joined the British Navy during the War of 1812 and deserted. He was caught and sentenced to be executed, but escaped and swam the river into New York. There he married Asenath Stover and I have a pretty good history from then on. The question is who was he originally?

I don't have any idea where to go from here, and am not very familiar with research in the UK, so thought I'd ask here.

Thanks for any help you might have.........Hailey

Staffordshire / Marriage of Edward and Martha Jones and/or Martha's maiden name
« on: Tuesday 09 April 13 07:36 BST (UK)  »
I am looking to find information about this couple. Edward Jones born about 1849 in Wolverhampton, England married to Martha ??? born about 1850 in C???ley, Staffordshire, England. They had a boy, Richard in 1877-8 born in Dudley, Worcestershire, England, and then two daughters, Antoinette ("Netty") and "Polly" in 1879 and 1881 both born in Wolverhampton.

I found this much on the 1881 Census, but have not found the family after that. Nor have I found a marriage record or Martha's maiden name.

Any Ideas???
