I use ancestry with a full subscription and FTM (for local backups really, the website is far more useable).

Ancestry is big but still I often fall into holes and have to ask for lookups on FindMyPast here, sometimes even the free data on familysearch fills the gap.

So ideally I would like to export tree and all media intact into a program that can sync with say FindMyPast (and FS if possible).

I have tried the various export options in FTM, but most of the options just crash every time.

Is what I want possible, should I persevere with FindMyPast and try getting ancestry to fix it?

Or do I just renew at ancestry, presumably they are open to negotiation

I am having trouble finding birth etc for my 2nd great grandmother, she married Joseph Alsop (from Sheen Staffs) in Didsbury, Lancs 24/08/1840 (her father was shown as James).

However I lost them both in 1841 census, but after that from 1851-1891 Hannah gave her name as Hannah (not Ann etc), a consistent birth place and dates from 1818 to 1820.

Joesephs occupations seemed variable, but the other stuff in the census tie up so I think I am right, he was a draper in 1851, a potato dealer in 1861 and a furniture dealer in 1871.

Having made progress I have I believe the right person but unreadable Austrian and Russian place of birth.

The Austrian place name is alternately described as Lemberg Austria on his naturalisation.

Any inspiration?

Trying to resolve this ancestor, the wisdom of the masses (ie Ancestry public trees have his parents as William and Margaret Elliot, who existed and got married and had a kid called William in about the right place at about the right time.

However Williams death certificate in Ashkirk 17 Dec 1867 shows parents as Walter and Jane (nee Elliot). He was pauper at death so these is not likely a headstone anywhere for confirmation.

I get the feeling this may have been gone over before, depite my inability to search it out here, does it ring any bells?

Ancestry transcriptions give this as "Alwork Derbyshire", I cannot find such a place, but I think the Derbyshire bit is right, I pulled a Derbyshire from the same census page down next to the one in question to help compare ().

It is for a Robert Alsop b abt 1775, Married a Hannah from Grindon Staffs, they had a bunch of kids starting with Robert in 1806 in Sheen, Staffs.

Any ideas?
