Other Countries / Death in India
« on: Tuesday 04 February 20 16:21 GMT (UK)  »
Henry Corney, born 1746 in York apparently died in Bombay in June 1777. I found the info on FindMyPast and its from the catalogue 'Parish register transcripts from the Presidency of Bombay, 1709-1948'.

The image is just a handwritten register and says Henry Corney solider.

Can anypoint point me to any other information that may give more details on Henry so I can hopefully confirm if he's 'mine'

Thank you

London and Middlesex / Enoch Cattle - Clerkenwell
« on: Saturday 07 March 15 16:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all - first post on here and I'm hoping someone may be able to save my sanity  :)

This is a bit long winded, so apologies and I hope it makes sense.

My GGG grandad Enoch Cattle, was born in Clerkenwell in 1809 (baptised 1810 St Giles Cripplegate, d.1891 in Hornsey).

According to an old paper family tree, I believe Enoch had 6 siblings (Henry 1812, John James, 1814, Martha Ann 1817, William George 1819, Christopher James 1822, Charles Thomas 1824).

On the birth & baptism records for all of the above, the parents are listed as William Cattle and Elizabeth and where an address is stated, it's the same on most of them - Cock Court, Snow Hill, so I know these all 'belong together'.

I have since found 2 other possible siblings Elizabeth Tory born August 1802, christened Nov 1802 at Saint Luke, Old Street and William Torry, born May 1804, baptised Oct 1804 also at Saint Luke. The parents for these are listed as William Henry Cattle and Elizabeth.

What's the likelihood that these 2 people are Enoch's older siblings? If the old tradition of naming the first born after the parents is true, then it would make sense as I've always wondered where the name Enoch came from as it never seemed to fit.

As well as working out if the above are related, my other brickwall is Enoch's parents. None of the records include a maiden name for Elizabeth and I have no other info on her at all. William Cattle is also a problem. I believe he was a tailor and apparently (according to Enoch's obituary), William was born in York ..... but, there are loads of William Cattles in York &I have no idea which is the right one. There are also numerous marriages between William Cattles and Elizabeths, but after following most of these marriages through, none show up with Enoch as their child!

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be most grateful.

Thank you
Jackie
