Hello, would some kind soul be able to fix up this photo of my late dad?

Caernarvonshire / Parish church of Llandegai

I have a marriage in 1889 in the above church, I've been on Genuki and it's not really clear but I think it may be called St Tegai's?  Is that correct?

The Common Room / Find My Past Focus Group
« on: Thursday 02 June 16 13:09 BST (UK)  »
Did anybody else see the notice last week on Facebook's Find My Past page asking if people wanted to join a focus group for which they would pay travel expenses to London and lunch in return for some feedback in a group setting?

Well I responded as asked and was informed yesterday that I was one of the people chosen and also we would receive a 12 month subscription to Twile (whatever that is).

I emailed back and forth and booked a few days off work and was arranging today to stay over with a friend as I live in Cumbria.

I've just received an email, 22 HOURS after the first one, saying that due to the high volume of numbers they are now not covering travel expenses but will offer refreshments and a 12 month sub to this Twile which BTW I got a 50% off offer for this morning as I have a 12 month sub to FindMyPast.

How unbelievably unprofessional is that!!!!  I'm so angry and now I have to get onto my payroll people and cancel the leave I had taken from work!!

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Dressing up or genuine?
« on: Monday 30 May 16 16:05 BST (UK)  »
A newly found second cousin has sent me this photo to see if I recognise anybody (I don't sadly :'( ) as she has no idea who it is.  We are related through our ancestors who were slate quarrymen in North Wales.

I shouldn't think this was the type of dress worn by them who seem to have lived very humble lives.  I'm sure I've read somewhere that people could use the photographer's props ie the clothes they are wearing (but what about the shiny shoes) plus for some reason the sailor suit looks like a fancy dress costume to my untrained eye.  Or maybe they are nothing to do with our related side of the family anyway.

What do you think?

Technical Help / TIF file
« on: Monday 30 May 16 13:13 BST (UK)  »
A distant relative has sent me an old photo in a TIF file format.  I wanted to put it on here on the photography section but it's over 2MB, I normally resize photo's in Picmonkey but it says it doesn't recognise this type of file and I've not come across this before and I don't know how to change it to a jpg or another recognised format??  Help needed please.

Armed Forces / Orford Barracks Warrington 1891
« on: Sunday 15 May 16 16:42 BST (UK)  »
Would soldiers stationed here in 1891 be involved in any wars?   Possibly my g. grandfather is here as an 18 year old but I'm not sure if it's him without further details.

Do army records still exist for these men?

My military knowledge is very slim so any help would be great.

Armed Forces / Help needed with Royal Navy records
« on: Saturday 14 May 16 17:17 BST (UK)  »
Can somebody who is familiar with the Royal Navy records please give me some assistance as I don't understand most of it.  ::)

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to ask for specific help so will leave it there for now until I get the go ahead.

Graveyards and Gravestones / Unknown infants in Toxteth Park Cemetery grave
« on: Thursday 12 May 16 12:20 BST (UK)  »
I have burials in Toxteth Park Cemetery in what appeared at first to be a family grave of 9 people, I can account for 6 of these people but 3 are unknown and unrelated (so far) infants.

My main person of interest Ann Povall was buried in 1864 and her married daughter, husband and family all follow in the years after this.

However the earliest burial in the grave is for one of these unknown infants in 1858, so is this a public grave rather than a private burial plot?
