Cumberland / McCann/Gilmar in Whitehaven
« on: Sunday 21 May 17 12:45 BST (UK)  »
Henry McCann, born around 1770) and Isabella Gilmar had several children born on the Isle of Man, then moved to Whitehaven, Cumberland between 1803 and 1808. Others have researched Thomas (1808), James (1810), Daniel (1814) and Isabella (1816) being born in Whitehaven, and the family then moving to Bolton, Lancashire. I have a John McCann (1817) from the Bolton area who on the 1881 census states he was born in Windemere, Cumberland.
John married Ellen Fishwick in Bury, Lancashire, and I have most of the history below this. There were no parents mentioned in the marriage registry (witnessed by John Forshaw and Esther Entwistle), and I only have found one on-line email that links John to Henry/Isabella.
I'm looking for any information that might help establish that this is a valid or invlid link between my John McCann and Henry/Isabella
Thanks in advance

Lancashire / McCann/Watson - Blackburn area
« on: Saturday 20 May 17 14:05 BST (UK)  »
My Great-Grandfather was George Henry McCann b.1853 son of John McCann and Ellen Fishwick
Married Margaret Watson on 25 Nov 1876 in Blackburn - both Catholic

Margaret was born in Ireland, daughter of Samuel Watson. Does anyone know of a way to find her mothers name? The GRO copy of the marriage certificate does not list that and I can't find any entries on the Lancashire OPC site.

Also interested in exchanging any information with others researching McCanns that settled in the Blackburn area.

TIA

Family History Beginners Board / Pickles Row, Blackburn
« on: Thursday 04 February 16 02:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, My great-grandmother was living on Pickles Row in Blackburn according to the 1881 census. I can't seem to find this on any modern map and was hoping that someone might point me towards where the location of it may have been.

Many thanks in advance

Marc
