Antrim / Hogg and Strain confusion
« on: Wednesday 22 February 17 20:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
I came across this exert from one of the graveyard links on here just now and it's confused my tree
It's in the Shankhill Graveyard - 1830-1930
and it says...
'Hogg Erected by Samuel Hogg in memory of his wife Susanna Hogg, died 18 May 1869 aged 71 years. Also his grand child Samuel H. Strain died 02 Jan 1869 aged 7 years. Also the above Samuel Hogg, died 31 May 1888 aged 86 years.'

I have on my tree that Theophilus Hogg married Eliza Strain in 1870 and they had a son Samuel Hogg that same year, do you think all of these Hoggs and Strains might be connected, I can't get my head around it.  ???

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / KEW LOOKUP REQUEST please
« on: Friday 24 June 16 11:39 BST (UK)  »
Hiya all,

In light of the decision of the UK to leave the EU I think I should apply for my Irish passport sooner rather than later, but because my mum remarried and I had a name change to my stepfather, I've been told by the GRO that I need the deed poll to show this  :(

The GRO pointed me in the direction of the national archives at Kew so I wonder if there is anyone who is going there if they could see if indeed the deed poll was enrolled for my name change please?

If anyone can do this for me please can you pm me for details - thank you, or let me know how else I could get these details?  :)

Many thanks,
Nikki  :)

Antrim / Searching for William 'Bill' Hogg

:) I've got the birth certificate for my dad, so I now know his parent's names, which hospital and where they lived - so happy about that. Though concerned whether the full names were used as it seems like someone from the hospital filled out the registration 3 days after he was born.

I've done a search for his mother on family search and there are quite a lot of ladies with that name, married about the same time - how do you suss out which one is related to you, when it doesn't say who they married? It doesn't help that as yet I don't know where his parents were born, but hoping someone knowledgeable can advise, thanks.

Family History Beginners Board / Searching for William 'Bill' Hogg

Apologies straight away as I don't know if I'm doing right by starting here, but I'm very new to this.

I started looking for my father William Hogg a couple of years ago, and it came to a dead end as the friend who was helping me got onto the wrong track and told me my father had died but there are no records of him dying and the friend also got things wrong.

I read that when people are still living that we should be careful with giving too much info so I'm not really sure what info to give - not that I have much to go on.

Basically I want to trace my father's parents so I can obtain his birth certificate so I can apply for an Irish passport as my mum is convinced he is Irish, but he lived in Liverpool for a while before moving down to East Devon when I came on the scene.

I've hit a brick wall as although I have his date of birth, I can't even find any details of him being born, and neither can the friend who was trying to help with this.

I have the marriage certificate, and my brother's birth certificate which has some details on but I'm really stuck here.

I have done all the searches I can and end up going round and round in circles as I have so little information, and I understand that a lot of Irish records were destroyed.

Anyway, sorry for rambling on, if anyone can offer any advice for me to get the ball rolling again I'd appreciate it, thank you.
