Berkshire / The Thatched Cottage, Ascot
« on: Thursday 01 January 15 20:46 GMT (UK)  »
I have a letter written in June 1940 which is unfortunately unsigned. The letter is a circular detailing  the events that overtook the Queens Victoria Rifles (QVR) at Calais in  May 1940 and was written from 'The Thatched Cottage, Ascot. My question is who was living at The thatched Cottage in Ascot in June 1940?  Any help much appreciated.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / The 0lgilvy Family of Binsted

Lucy Ogilvy nee wickham was mother to Lieutenant William Wickham Ogilvy. William also had a sister Eleanore - William was killed on 23 March 1918. Lucy's father was William Wickham the MP. I'm getting bogged down with the falily tree - I know there were the Wickham links - although I'm not dure where Captain Cyril Henry Wickham fits in - a brother of Lucy perhaps?
Then there is the Bonham-Carter link!
Any help from someone who knows this family tree would be gratefully accepted

« on: Thursday 26 May 11 17:37 BST (UK)  »
George was killed on 15 August 1915 aged 23. He was the son of Martha Allen - could be Allan - of 20 Alexandra Terrace, West Parade, Lincoln. He served with the 1/4th Battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment. I'm looking for any census information on him - I can't find any!! or any other info about this young man.
Thanks

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / Gillespie family
« on: Monday 07 February 11 12:33 GMT (UK)  »
This is a whopping great long shot - but here goes!  Lieutenant Thomas Cunningham gillespie served in the 2nd battalion kings Own Scottish Borderers and was killed on 18th October 1914. He was an olympic rower and won a silver medal in the 1912 Olympics. His Brother, Alexander Douglas Gillespie was also killed in the Great War. The address on Gillespie's Medal Index Card is: Longcroft Linlithgow. His father is named as TP Gillespie.
Thomas was born in 1892 at Clanna Cottage, Alvington, Gloucestershitre and was the grandson of Alexander Gillespie of  Biggar Park Lanarkshire. He went to Winchester and New College Oxford.
Thomas wrote a diary during his short stay on the Western Front and I would dearly love to track it down if it still exists - hence my need to get in touch with any existing members of the family. Any help of suggestions would be gratefully received.

Down / Captain Lowry Newcastle
« on: Sunday 16 January 11 13:11 GMT (UK)  »
I'm researching my grandfather's diaries and have got to April 1912 when he attended the Royal County Down Golf Club AGM  at Newcastle on 27 April 1912. He mentions the following people: Captain Lowry who  was on his table, Bob Wallace who sang the 'South Down Militia' and an E Young. Any Down experts out there who can add any detail to these names?

London and Middlesex / Charles Harding
« on: Friday 26 February 10 17:59 GMT (UK)  »
A long shot this one but you never know...... Charles Harding was a private soldier in the 2 Battalion Kings Own Scottish borderers. He was badly injured at Ypres in 1914 and eventually invalided out of the army. He pops up again in June 1919 living at 235 Kilburn Road, Paddington - information from a letter head - married but wife's name unknown but has a 9 month old son called Willie. I'm stumped but somewhere there is info about this man. Any help appreciated.
