Scotland / Not divorced?
« on: Thursday 23 June 16 16:03 BST (UK)  »
Found a female relative marrying in Scotland in 1878. She and husband had  a child that died. Husband then moves in with other woman in 1885 and he has children with other woman. Husband dies 1894 in Scotland.

Meantime wife gets married again in 1889 i Scotland and has children with new man.

was this unusual - was there a divorce - would it have been discovered?

Lanarkshire / James Butti or Beattie
« on: Monday 20 June 16 13:19 BST (UK)  »
In a Glasgow Poor law application circa 1920 James Beattie is referred to as dying in war service for Scottis Rifles.. It goes onto say he died in Nov 1916 - bit doesnt give location.

Although he was born James Butti on 1875, Glasgow and lived in with his partner in Glasgow until his death. They had no children. They lived in Cowlairs/Possipark district of Glasgow.

I searched SP and the CWGC and found nothing - any other suggestions or have I missed something. I did find hos birth and entry in 1911 census for Glasgow but no death!

Any comments please. Thanks

I've been reading a document which refers to some ancestors place of birth as;

the Parish of Iona, St Peters, Invernesshire.

Is St Peters a church or place? The person referred to was catholic in case that matters. Grateful for help. Thanks

Inverness / Small Isles parish Invernessshire
« on: Sunday 05 June 16 11:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi - grateful for any help on the small isles parish. I understand it comprised of several islands.

I have an ancestor Angus Morrison, who married in RC church Glasgow in 1837.

His place of birth is given as "small isles parish, Invernessshire". Any idea what one that could be and how to track his birth?
His wife, Flora Paterson, was from "Island of Colonsay" - I know where that is

thank you

Scotland / Two marriage entries on Catholic the other not
« on: Saturday 04 June 16 13:29 BST (UK)  »
I found an entry for a couple marrying in RC church Glasgow in 1837.

There is also an entry in the OPR's for same couple, same year etc, but different county/place.

Any idea why this would be so?

thanks
