« on: Wednesday 03 April 24 15:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone I have promised my wife that I will try and sort out her part of the family. Her granny was Alice Mc Cabe and her husband was a Jack Mc Cabe. Their children were Jack May Eileen and James. James was my wife’s father. We know the history of the other children but my wife has no knowledge at all of her granny ie maiden name etc nor does she have any knowledge of her granddads side of the Mc Cabes who resided in 15 Rockville St Belfast. Any information would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Family History Beginners Board / Bridget Blake
« on: Thursday 30 September 21 14:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone I am trying to make sense of a Ancestry message I got. My Aunt Bridie as I knew her or Bridget Blake her official name was born in Kerry about 1905 her parents my grandad and gran were Michael and Jane Blake. I know my Aunt did not live in Belfast or England during her life apart from her retirement from the Cunard Line and then she lived with her sister for a short while. Ancestry sent me 2 suggestions one states that a Bridget Blake had residence in 1925 in Manchester New Hampshire and two immigration records show a Bridget Blake passed through on the 7th Oct 1929 in New York from Cobh Ireland. I haven’t a clue where my Aunt lived apart from her visits to Belfast after her ship docked in England. Any help would be much appreciated as it will cost me £100 for 6 months of Ancestry!! Thank you.

Family History Beginners Board / Martin James Blake
« on: Wednesday 28 July 21 17:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone I am trying to find out more information on my uncle Martin Blake. What I do know is he was born in Belfast in 1906 at 48 Jocelyn Avenue. His father my grandad was in the Royal Irish Constabulary Michael Blake. He was posted with his family to Kerry where the remainder of his children were born apart from one other who was also born in Belfast. In 1922 my grandad was disbanded and he and the family went to live in England. At sometime I dont know when he returned to live in Belfast. In the 1950s my Uncle Martin would make the odd visit to Belfast and sometime in the 50s he died in England. All I know is he was married with a family whose names I have no idea and that he had something to do with working on the railways possibly as a train driver?? I would love to know more about his family if at all possible. Many thanks Gerry

Hi can anyone help me here regarding the Burroughs side of my family. My father was William Burroughs born on Portsmouth 1902. His parents who I never heard much about were Edward Burroughs and his wife Sarah. I believe her maiden name was Magney, I have no details about these grand parents at all as my father never spoke of them. I would love to know where the Magney family came from and when mt Grandad Edward died and if he and his wife came from large familys from the Portsmouth area. Any information I really would appreciate. Gerry

World War One / Captain Patrick Francis Joseph Fawcett-Barry ?
« on: Wednesday 27 December 17 22:48 GMT (UK)  »
I bought a set of miniature medals attributed to this man. I also got his medal card to see if the medals matched up. He apparently was with the Lancashire Fusiliers in WW1. He has a W. Africa medal with clasp 1919 which I cannot find in my Spink medal ref book!! The national Archives has his title msg to me as Barry,Patrick Francis Joseph Fawcett: Lancashire Fusiliers.  Were the Lancashire Fusiliers in W.Africa?? also there is a mentioned in dispatches leaf on the W.Africa medal and one on the war medal. The medal card has a note at the btm which states unable to verify Mentioned  in dispatches. So I am confused about his actual name and his medals!!! any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Gerry
