« on: Sunday 03 April 11 12:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have a James GRANT born c 1811-1817 - various ages on various documents, unfortunately.
But it is reasonably consistent that he was born Aberdeen and looks to be Crathie and Braemar.

He married Janet ANDERSON (widow - I presume of Adam MYLES) in 1838, Kettins, Forfarshire.

David MUNRO - 28- born Fodderty, Rossshire, Journeyman Shoemaker, Lodger
David MCGREGOR - 20 - born Perth, Perthshire, Jouneyman Shoemaker Lintor, Lodger

The family came to NZ.
James' death cert gives his father as Gregor GRANT, Shepherd and no name for his mother, unfortunately.

I have been unable to find out more details of James parents/birth.  Would love to hear from anyone with some tips/clues or recognises these names :D

Perthshire / MYLES - Lethendy - baptism/mge?
« on: Sunday 03 April 11 08:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
For many decades I have been looking for detail on my ancestor John MYLES (we knew him as John Myles GRANT for at least 100yrs - until just recently!)
His mother as Janet ANDERSON and I believe his father was Adam MYLES.  I cannot find a marriage for his parents and can find no entry for John MYLES' christening/birth in OPRs.  Most documents point to him being born c 1835 and the 1861 and 1871 Census have him born in Lethendy (though they are hard to transcribe).
Adam MYLES presumably died while John was young and Janet remarried to James GRANT in 1830, Kettins, Angus/Forfarshire.
Janet was born c1811-1818, Scone.
Would be very grateful for any help/assistance anyone can give, does anyone recognise these names?

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Jersey - LE MASURIER/LE BRUN/HELLYER
« on: Friday 01 April 11 12:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Elizabeth/Betsey LE MASURIER md to Edouard LE BRUN in 1802, St Peter - they appear to have had only three children:
1802 - Elizabeth,  Francoise Anne in 1805 and Jeanne in 1809.
I had a note that perhaps Edouard LE BRUN had died sometime around 1809 or  a little later - poss 1814, St Peter.
Elizabeth/Betsy could have remarried to Robert HELLYER - unfortunately I don't have a marriage for this couple but suspect it was 1813/1814, possibly St Helier, the first child I know about was born c 1814, St Helier.  Which could fit with with 2nd marriage.
It also explains the fact that I thought she was a little older than normal to be marrying to Robert. :)

Fingers crossed. :)

Inverness / INGLIS & Kingsmill, Inverness
« on: Monday 26 December 05 23:37 GMT (UK)  »
Family history tells me that my GGG- Grandmother was Helen INGLIS - dau of Colonel INGLIS of Kingsmill, Inverness.
Though the same 'history' appears to have been correct in all other aspects I think I it may be wrong here....
I cannot prove this connection with KINGSMILL or find her christening/birth...
Helen INGLIS was md Edinburgh in 1813 - it was said to have been a runaway marriage!  She md 'Capt' George HEPBURN (shipmaster on MI)
I guess this would make her born c 1798 or earlier... for some reason I think she was quite young when she married!  They lived in Renfrewshire after their marriage.
Thanks in anticipation for any help..

Renfrewshire / Death at sea - Greenock MI
« on: Monday 26 December 05 23:23 GMT (UK)  »
I have found a burial of my GGG-Grandfather in Greenock Cemetery - after many years of looking...
GREENOCK CEMETERY, Renfrewshire
Geo HEPBURN shipmaster d at sea 11.11.1840  49, Eliz Jameson 12.4.1857, 62.

Is there a record of deaths of sea which can be consulted - am completely at a loss to know more about him ie parents...
Some family info had him as a Captain in the Royal Navy!
I know he married twice - first to Helen INGLIS - family history says that it was a 'runaway mge' and she was of the INGLIS family of Kingsmill, Inverness - however my research, so far, proves that to be unlikely - the family connection I mean!
He had six children - all born Renfrewshire (Port Glasgow & West or Old Parish) from 1814-1825 (1st mge)
Would love any help I could get on this one...  :-\
