Denbighshire / Richard Thomas - 1861 Hairdresser
« on: Monday 02 January 23 17:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi!

I'm wondering if someone can help me.

I've searched for William Roberts for years and I've just found a potential connection to him, Richard Thomas?

There's a census for 1861 with:

Richard Thomas / Head / 40 / Hairdresser born in Ruthin, Denbighshire

Catherine Thomas / Wife / 40

Ann Thomas / Niece / 25 / House Servant

William Roberts / Apprentice / 15 / Hairdressing Apprentice

William died when he was 16 years old and I have always thought he was a tailor, but then I found this and wondered if there is any way that I can find out where Richard and William worked? If it was a shop in their town? Or if there's pictures etc?

I'm soooo close, yet so far!!

Thank you  :)

Scotland / Midgard Estate, Cavers, Hawick
« on: Thursday 09 June 22 13:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have been looking at a property for years. I don't know why but the mansion itself just interests me so much. It was up for sale some time ago and I think it has now been sold so I don't know who I'd contact really, to stay updated with what they do with it!

But what would interest me is, would anyone know how lived there previously? The history of the lady who owned the house? She kept her husbands ashes in the property and they were still there after she left. Its just such an interesting house, I love it. I wish it could be easier to find the history and current updates.

Thank you :)

The Common Room / Magazine from 1898
« on: Saturday 18 July 20 18:56 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

We were sorting our loft out and came across a magazine type of book that my grandad had found years ago when he was doing building work at a derelict property.

The magazine was called Home Notes and the date says 1898. I've tried to search for the same magazine online and I can't seem to find anything!

I only took a picture of the front as it is very delicate after many many years!

Cheshire / Hmm is this strange?
« on: Saturday 04 July 20 17:02 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I was looking for information on my relative, Wilfred Oakes, a while ago.

My nana (his daughter), has just brought him up again and we've realised some weird things!

Wilfred married Doris Walklate in 1947, Northwich area, but there is hardly anything online to confirm this? I've just ordered there marriage certificate (hopefully it's theres), but it's very hard to find online! Myheritage? Freebmd?

Also, Wilfred died in Middlewich, he drowned in the local canal and was found by a dog walker. The case is still open and he died in 1977, for such a small village, this is BIG news and we'd of thought it would be in the papers? But we can't find anything for that either? We don't know if he was pushed in or if he fell in or if he jumped in..

It just seems very strange to me!

Thank you in advance if anyone can help :)

Europe / Matjas surname, finding a family in Germany
« on: Monday 30 March 20 18:44 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm trying to help someone find there family but they are having no luck at the moment! Can anyone help find information?

So there was Josef Porr DOB 1879 and Helene Matjas DOB 1890.

They had Josef Matjas 1914 - 1999.

Josef Matjas then married Alice Grunewald 1908 - 1995 and they had a child called Rosemarie Matjas 1939 - 2000.

Kristen is really eager to find information, she has these basic facts but she wants to know if theres anything else. Pictures/more unknown family/siblings etc? Where did they live in Germany? Is "Matjas" even a german surname? We know Josef and Alice eventually went to the USA in 1954.

There just doesn't seem to be anyone alive who'd have the answers for Kristen, so i'm hoping someone can help? :)

thank you.

Other Countries / Croatia - Stefica Perek Headstone
« on: Thursday 30 January 20 18:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I have been sent this image, a grave stone for Milan and Stefica Perek, i have no idea where the grave is! Just that it is somewhere in Beletinec, Croatia.

But i'm trying to find out when Stefica died as it isnt on the headstone? (i've been told numerous times that she has definitely passed away), so i'm just wondering if anyone know how to search this? As i don't speak Croatian and it's making it quite difficult! :(

Cheshire / Abandoned House on Wistaston Road, Nantwich
« on: Sunday 12 January 20 12:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I am VERY interested to learn about the abandoned house on Wistaston Road in Nantwich, no.10.

I've searched for the residents and it says the house is still owned, but theres no way anyone could be living in there right now. It looks like it has been abandoned for years. I'm just wondering if anyone would know any information on this property? old owners etc? what happened?

Thank you :)
