It is thought that my GORDON ancestors originated in Fife, Scotland and came to the East Riding (via Northumberland) around 1840. First sighting is in the 1841 Census for William GORDON (b abt 1800 in Northumberland) and family. No sighting for 1861 but appeared in Pocklington for census of 1871, 1881 and 1891. The family appear to have also dispearsed to Langtoft, Bridlington and York. By 1900 my direct known family were in County Durham where my grandmother was born in 1900.

My William and descendants were shepherds. How do I attach a photo?

I wonder whether any of my GORDON family still live in the East Riding?

Wexford / Elizabeth KERWIN of County Wexford
« on: Saturday 02 December 17 12:58 GMT (UK)  »
I would appreciate help to find the birth/baptism and marriage of my ggg grandmother who is believed to be Elizabeth KERWIN (GRO birth records for many of her children refers) born about 1838 in County Wexford, according to the 1911 English Census.

Elizabeth married Charles NASH (born Chiseldon, Wiltshire, England in 1835) about 1860. No such marriage has been found in the UK or Ireland. NASH is sometimes transcribed as NAISH.

Charles was in the British Army (76th Foot) and stationed in Belfast, Dublin and possibly Waterford in the early 1860s.

The couple lived in Radstock, Somerset, England from at least the 1871 Census and had 11 children.

Wiltshire / NASH Family of Chiseldon
« on: Thursday 30 November 17 16:40 GMT (UK)  »
My maternal ggg grandfather Charles NASH was born in Chiseldon in 1835. He is recorded in the 1841 Census with his mother Jane (b.1811) and siblings living in Badbury. Charles is lodging with the ROMANS family in 1851. He joined the army in 1854  and was stationed in Glasgow with the 76th Regiment of Foot in 1861. Around this time he married Elizabeth of County Wexford, Ireland but no record of this event can be traced in UK or Ireland. Equally their daughter Sarah Ann (my gg grandmother) was supposedly born about 1863 in Aldershot (76th Foot were stationed there around that time) but no birth/baptism record can be found. Charles was medically discharged from the army while stationed in Belfast in 1864. From the 1871 census onwards the family home became Radstock, Somerset. Charles and Elizabeth had 11 children born alive according to the 1911 Census but I have only record of 8. Charles is thought to have died in Radstock in 1916.

Looking to trace more information regarding the NASH family of Wilts, particularly the father of Charles.
