Armed Forces / Harry BA(I)LEY Boer War
« on: Monday 30 January 06 15:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have the briefest information on a soldier from the Smethwick, Staffordshire area who died in 1900 by the name of Harry BAIL(E)Y.

Is there any chance of finding any more about him, please?

Completed Census Requests / Can't find on 1901 Census
« on: Sunday 29 January 06 16:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

Any suggestions about finding this family on the 1901 Census:

Father:
Alfred Richard BAILEY born 1868 Pentrewilley, Castlewright, Montgomery (near Mainstone)
Mother:
Elizabeth E. BAILEY born 1866 Sydnal, Chirbury, Shropshire
Children:
Margaret BAILEY born 1891 Manchester
John BAILEY born 1893 Manchester
Annie BAILEY born 1885 Manchester

Last known address was in 1895 when they were at 80 Slater Street, Manchester.
They emigrated to Ontario, Canada in about 1904.

Alfred was known as Dick; Elizabeth was known as Eliza and I have tried every possible variant on their names, initials etc.

Help please?

Technical Help / Blowing up images
« on: Sunday 29 January 06 15:46 GMT (UK)  »
Anyone watch the CSI programmes on TV and wonder just how they blow-up the images on their screens to the required degree without pixilating.  I do.
Are these programmes in the realms of stretching the truth a bit or can it be done, but costs the earth?

Warwickshire / Osborne House, Islington Row, B'ham
« on: Thursday 26 January 06 21:31 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help with the location of Osborne House, Islington Row?

My grandmother was a servant at this house around the 1890s, but I can't find the house in directories or on maps to find out who were the owners.  I am presuming it is Islington Row running off Five Ways in Birmingham, unless anyone knows another situation for this house.
