Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Zipfel in Lenzkirch?
« on: Saturday 25 March 23 18:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm starting to dip into the Partners side of the tree, and once branch leads to Lenzkirch and the Zipfel surname.

Berlin-Bob mentioned on another post from 2004/5 when someone else mentioned the same names to post on this board, so hopefully I can get some help.

I think I have gone as far back as John Zipfel (I presume the John is an anglicised version of the German name) born in 1745 in Lenzkirch.

The family from there move to Norfolk and Brandon.

My german is basic, but I can look around sites and use translate sometimes, but if anyone can narrow down a couple of pages to help that would be really good.

I don't even know which 'country' Lenzkirch belonged to in 1745 as unification wasn't till the 1800's.

 Any help appreciated.

Lincolnshire / 3 Mary Ann Robinson's (Middle Rasen)
« on: Saturday 04 February 23 18:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I've had much help from this site before, so hopefully I can get some more.

I'm looking for MARY ANN number 1

Mary Ann Robinson - born to James Robinson and Christiana Pixley, she was baptised 1st January 1837 in Middle Rasen.

On the 1841 Census she's in Middle Rasen with Christiana, and Christiana's father John Pixley.
in 1851 it's possible she's the servant to John Miller, also in Middle Rasen.

 I lose her after that.

 MARY ANN number 2

Mary Ann Robinson born in 1960 to Isaac Robinson and Maria Firth (or Ann Maria Firth on the 1861 Census)

on the 1861 census this family is in Earswick, Yorkshire. I lose her and her mother after this.

On the 1871 Census Isaac is back in Middle Rasen, I've checked the 1871 Middle Rasen census and they aren't there.

 MARY ANN number 3

Born in 1881 to the same Isaac Robinson and his second wife Elizabeth Bonnett (which makes me wonder if the first Mary Ann he had died?)

I follow her through most of her life, marrying William Fisher and John William Woolley.  I think she died in 1965, but I can't find John Woolley's death, or place, which would be most helpful as I try and find her burial spot.

Any help appreciated, especially regards the first 2.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Richard Northway / Edward Walters
« on: Tuesday 17 August 21 18:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'd like to thank all who helped with my last request, I do have a new one.   I'm struggling with the Husband of Elizabeth (Lizzie) Barwell 1876-1961.

I have 2 names for her husband and wondered how easy it would have been to just change names?

I have a marriage record in the marriage index for Bourne 1892 with Richard Northway.

I have the 1911 Census which says she's been married to Edward Walters for 19 years. so the same year.

I have their daughter named Alice Louisa Northway Walters, on the Marriage Register, in 1819 the father is Edward Richard Northway Walters.

Would it have been easy to just add names?   I have no baptism record for Alice L N Walters.

I can also not find a burial record for Edward Richard Northway Walters.

Lizzie Barlow (Walters) spent all the life according to the census records in Clowne.

Any help would be appreciated even the he just added bits to his name sort.

Hi,

I've had some great help on here before, I'm now looking for more.

I have a missing person Elizabeth Froggatt who married Joseph Seston

I have her up to 1875 with the birth and death of her daughter Constance Maud Seston in Clowne

I can't find her on the 1881 Census and I've checked the burial records for Clowne up to 1904

All her family lived in Clowne and she isn't on their census either.

In 1881 Joseph Seston was in Manchester with a new wife and 1 year old child.

To add to my mystery she has a daughter Minnie Seston born also in 1875 (Constance must have been born early) who I can't find any information about except the birth.  She also isn't in the Burial register in Clowne, she also isn't with her father in Manchester.

So any help tracking Elizabeth Froggatt born 1849 in Barlborough missing from 1875

and Minnie Seston born 1875 in Clowne.  (There is another Minnie Seston on Ancestry She is the Granddaughter of Elizabeth and married in 1912)

Lincolnshire / Confirming a marriage 1859 Help needed
« on: Monday 27 April 20 23:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to sort out an early marriage for Isaac Robinson.  So far I have the following information.

Born 1838 in Middle Rasen (Lincstothepast website confirms baptism)

in 1859 Married either Maria Firth  or Ann Lusby (Civil Registration Marriage Index)

in 1861 Lived in Earswick with wife Ann M Robinson and daughter Mary A Robinson both supposedly born in Middle Rasen. (1861 Census)

in 1871 he's back in Middle Rasen, without wife and daughter, and I have all the information after this date.

 My main problem is -

The 1861 census seems to suggest that he married Ann Lusby, but I can't confirm an Ann Lusby born in Middle Rasen in that time, there is an Ann Lusby born in Tealby which most people seem to think is the one.  Recently however someone else has proven her not be correct, with her confirmed on a 1861 Census elsewhere.

I have also only found one Mary A Robinson born in 1860 (England and Wales Births) in the Caistor area (Middle Rasens general area).  She has a father called Robinson and a mother called Firth.

Which suggests that he fathered a child with Maria Firth.

I so far haven't found baptism records for Ann Lusby, Maria Firth or Mary Ann Robinson although I have only checked Middle Rasen's records, I still have to go through others on the Lincstothepast website.

I'm struggling to find a Maria Firth at all.

I can't find a church record of the marriage, but I think I'll need to visit the churches for that or the central Lincs record office.

If anyone can advise on sites to look from here then I would be most grateful.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Denholme, St Pauls
« on: Tuesday 28 January 20 14:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Is there anyone on here who has knowledge of the graveyard there.

I have an ancestor buried there, and the burial register has numbers and letters next to it.

I presume its for a grid system similar to those used in the methodist burial ground.

If anyone's got a 'map', or way of reading the system could they get in touch.  I'll start mapping it by hand myself but were visiting saturday and if someone could show me the system quicker that would be better.

 thanks

Hi all,

Does anyone use a map to chart there families journey around the country.   I've got Google Maps, but it's not the best.

Does anyone else do this and do they have recommendations?

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Denholme Methodist Burial Ground
« on: Friday 24 January 20 18:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for someone who could visit the Methodist Burial Ground in Denholme (the one on the A629, next to Foster Park Road) behind Divine Soaps on Google Maps.

If there is anyone who passes this regularly or lives nearby and would be willing to visit and take a couple of pictures for me that would be very helpful

The graveyard is laid out in a grid system (supposedly) and I have my ancestors grave and quite a few round him mapped out on a spreadsheet.  I'm hoping that if someone can snap a few pictures of the graves nearest the entrance I can work out where they are with regards to the ones I want.

I have visited previously but this was before I knew about the grave layout.  I will be visiting again, but I will be doing Denholme, Oakworth and a church visit as well as finding something for the family to do so anytime I can save would be appreciated.

I can PM if someones willling to help.

Derbyshire / John Newton & Elizabeth ?? (Spencer)
« on: Wednesday 20 November 19 20:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm struggling to confirm the identity of the wife to John Newton (1837-1905)

He was born in Whitwell in 1837

His wife on the Census' is Elizabeth and she claims the same year of Birth and Place of Birth.

I have a Civil Registration Index for 1855 which has John Newton and an Elizabeth Spencer.

For the 1861 and 1871 Census they are in Whitwell

For the 1881, 1891 and 1901 Census they were in Clowne and I have his burial as 1905 in Clowne.

Elizabeth I believe died in 1911, but there are no church burial records for Clowne after 1909.

I can't find any Elizabeth Spencer in the 1841 or 1851 census in Whitwell.  I've had a look in the Church Marriage records for the churches listed in the Marriage index's district and have come up with nothing.

Would it be possible for me to get the marriage certificate from that far back with any relevant information.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

 David
