Australia / Undertakers of Hobart records - Clark Bros.
« on: Tuesday 06 June 17 11:15 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone had access to a copy of the index to the Clark Bros. funeral records 1910-1928, specifically the burial of Susannah Hanson who died 13 July 1912.

I ordered the death certificate which states the Clark Bros as the undertaker, but does not list the burial. If someone could possibly let me know the burial details, it would be a big help.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Australia / Beauvant/Bovault in Colyton around 1900
« on: Friday 18 April 14 12:50 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for family Christian and Mary Beauvant/Bovault.

They were in front of Penrith Police court regarding a fence dispute, recoded in the Nepean Times - 13 May 1899.

Within this news article recounting the court case, Mary Bovault is married to Christian Bovault, a poultry farmer and she lists William Robinson (my ancestor) as her brother in law. She also lists that she came from America 43 years prior (1856).

According to NSW BDM (record ordered) Mary died in 1901 in St Mary NSW.

I was wondering if anyone else has any information on this family or surname

Thanks

Australia / Do you recognise these historic houses?
« on: Monday 17 February 14 09:53 GMT (UK)  »
My ancestor, John Spence was a gardener and I have 2 photos taken of houses where he apparently laid out the gardens - believed to be somewhere in NSW or Vic.

I know it is a long shot, but on the off chance someone may recognise these 2 photos of houses I thought I would give it a go.

You never know the power of the www!

Thanks

Australia / Public Trustee NSW
« on: Wednesday 08 January 14 03:54 GMT (UK)  »
I recently came across a sister of an ancestor who died a spinster in 1938 and her estate was taken by the public trustee.

I was hoping the deceased estate might shed some light on whether or not her brothers were alive in 1938 and were given anything in will.

Could someone please explain what happens to deceased estate that are in the hands of the Public Trustee?
Does the government make a handy windfall if one dies without a will and there is no NOK?
Is there a statute of limitations with making a claim?

Thanks,
John

I was wondering if someone could hemp find a little more info about:
James McLaughlin b. 1789 d. 1864
His wife is believed to be named Sidney

His death is listed in an Australian newspaper as his daughter and son-in-law moved to Australia in 1842.

United States of America / Spence family from England
« on: Wednesday 10 July 13 10:44 BST (UK)  »
I don't have any other ancestors from USA, so I'm not too sure where to start.

I would like some information confirming that he fought in the Mexican War, record of being married or the birth of his children.

Edward Brown Spence was born in 1825 in Darlington, Durham, England. He was part of the Dragoon Guards, stationed in Ireland.

According to his obituary, he want to America in around 1845 and supposedly served as a 1st Lieutenant of the Louisiana Rangers officered by General Zachariah Taylor and Captain Martin Scott and served through the whole of the Mexican War from 1845 to 1847.

Around 1850 he married Margaret Andrews (from his home town in England) in Washington DC or Virginia and worked at a plantation in Virginia. They had the following children in Virginia and/or Philadelphia:
Mary Ann 1852
John 1853
Edward 1855
Emma 1857

Edward Brown Spence went back and forth between England to USA in the subsequent years buying and selling plants and bulbs for his parents (then his) nursery business.

Any help appreciated

Australia / Passenger ship named "Drover"?
« on: Monday 23 July 12 06:18 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a ship named "Drover" that came to Australia around 1876 (possibly 5 years +-). It was listed on an ancestors record as the ship he arrived on but I can't find any record of it. He was a gardener so it was not his occupation put in the wrong section. i am not sure where it arrived in Australia, probably Sydney as that was where he lived in the 1880's

any help appreciated

John
