New Zealand Completed Requests / Lookup Requests for Archives NZ Wellington
« on: Saturday 05 October 19 03:19 BST (UK)  »
Would appreciate if someone could do a lookup in Archives Wellington for the following records. I am not sure if I should do one post for each lookup, or put them all on one post, but as 4 of the 5 records are all in the same Agency / series / Accession / Box I have put them all here.  If I need to split them out (or just the one that is different), please let me know and I will do so:)

The following 4 records are all in the same box, and if there is more than 1 page for the record, if possible, a copy of all the pages for the record title would be very much appreciated.

Hi,

Does anyone know if the Auckland Highway Provincial rolls 1863 - 1870 are online and if so where? And what would they have in them?  :-\ I found an obscure ref to these for someone I am trying to track.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Help With Deciphering Cryptic Handwriting
« on: Thursday 01 August 19 08:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Could someone help decipher the writing for what is under the headings Abode and Quality, Trade or Profession for these two baptism entries.  I put the two into one file as that may help to work out what some of the words are.  I am fairly sure that the "Quality, Trade or Profession" is not "dead" :-\

Thank you for your time :)

Kia ora,
While on the eternal search for whakapapa I came across a single reference in a Maori Land Court Minute (MLCM) for Heni WITAKA.  It was in the succession for Reihana PAORA who died in 1919 at about 86 years of age at the time of death and it states that his third wife was Heni WITAKA.  They had no issue and that she was also deceased.

I have found and have copies from the baptism register, Page 125 as follows
Jane, baptised Nov 6 1848, father James  WHITIKER, abode Mangonui, by J Matthews.  #1000

Directly above this is an entry for John, baptised Nov 6 1848, father James WHITIKER, abode Mangonui, occupation European sawyer,  by Joseph Matthews #999

Over the page (126), the next 2 entries are
Margaret , baptised Nov 6 1848, father James WHITIKER, abode Mangonui, occupation European sawyer,  by J Matthews #1001

Ellen, Nov 6 1848, father James  WHITIKER, abode Mangonui, by J Matthews.  The mother is not named. #1002

The mother is not named on any of the entries.

In this register, alot of people in it are known by Maori names but have been entered using an English name. Heni is the Maori for Jane so I am trying to work out if Heni WITAKA and Jane WHITIKER are the same person, or as I have seen on a few post in these forums, Jane WHITAKER.

Any pieces that could help with the puzzle are most welcome :)
