Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Burial Lookup

I wonder if anyone could find the burial of John Cooper who was said to have died at Sutton?

John was a shoemaker/baptist minister, and was, presumably, born in Nantwich, Cheshire where he was established as the first baptist minister of a new chapel purchased for that purpose in the town in around 1808.

In his book on the history of Nantwich James Hall (who was himself born in Lincolnshire in the 1840s) wrote “Mr Cooper, who was still minister in 1820, removed to Coseley, in Staffordshire, and afterwards to Wisbeach, and then to Sutton, in Lincolnshire, where he died...”. Unfortunately no date of death is given.

In the Crewe Chronicle (dated 1929) the death of his niece, Martha Adams, at the age of 91, is reported. It states that John Cooper was the brother of her grandfather Rev William Cooper, and that John left for Lincoln after some dispute in Nantwich and took the keys to the chapel with him. The chapel it was said remained closed for 40 years before being reopened. The obituary also states that the keys were returned so presumably this is when John Cooper died but I’m not sure on dates. It states that Martha was baptised in the chapel 60 years ago which would mean 1869 but then she would have been born 1838ish so it was a very late baptism if i’m Understanding it correctly.

Many thanks

Hi! I wonder if anyone could find the baptism of Thomas Edward Gresty? His birth was registered in the Sept Qtr of 1912 in the Nantwich District. His parents were George Bannister and Florence Gresty nee Wilding. They lived at Roseneath, Wistaston Road, Willaston near Nantwich.

Many thanks

Cheshire / Cheshire Record Office wills

Is anyone else having difficulty searching for wills?

They seem to have updated their search facility. Heaven knows why as it was working perfectly before.

I fill in what I know (sometimes I’m just casting my net wide so leave out exact dates and places of abode etc) press ‘search’ and receive a message saying ‘Not enough entries’ at the bottom of the page. And even when I fill everything out entering details of wills ordered previously nothing happens.

Feeling slightly frustrated!

Angus (Forfarshire) / Marriage Lookup: 1826
« on: Tuesday 29 March 22 13:58 BST (UK)  »
Hello all

Does anyone have access to the parish registers of St. Vigeans, Angus? I'm interested in a marriage between Edward Bayley and Mary Walker Arnot which supposedly took place on 22 Aug. 1826 according to the source I found online.

The source also states that this Edward Bayley was born at Wybunbury, Cheshire in 1783 so I was wondering if the parish registers confirm this or confirm that he was an officer? Edward was an officer in the Royal Navy and died in 1846 and was buried at Wybunbury. His will gives no indication that he had ever been married because he leaves his entire estate to his brother, Henry so I'm beginning to wonder whether the Edward who married Mary Walker Arnot is the same Edward who was born and died in Cheshire?

Many thanks

Hello

Could someone possibly help me with this.

I need to know the name of the father of Emma Edwards given on her marriage certificate.

She married Joseph Heler in the September qtr of 1876 in the Nantwich registration district. I think they may have married at Wybunbury parish as this is where both families lived.

Many thanks

Hi

I’m looking for the burial of Sarah Bellett.

In her will dated 5 June 1826 she was described as ‘late of Hall Hayes, Sampford Arundel, Somerset but now of Kings Heath near Birmingham’. Her will was proved 29 Feb 1832.

Many thanks
