My Grandmother Elizabeth Moffatt Russell b Dec 1868 Kilsyth, Scotland emigrated to New Zealand.  She accompanied Mr and Mrs Garciner and their daughter Sarah.  I am wondering if Elizabeth was staying with the Gardiner family in Wellington.  They arrived in Wellington November 1901.  Elizabeth worked in Hobson Street, Wellington for Monteith and also Warrens.

Elizabeth m my grandfather Charles Robert Matthews April 1904 at Wellington.

Would anyone be able to find me Elizabeth in an Electoral Roll from Nov  1901. She died Oct 1937. At that stage she was living at 27 Nelson Street, Petone.

Thank you

New Zealand Completed Requests / TARANAKI LAND 1894 *COMPLETED*
« on: Friday 26 November 10 04:35 GMT (UK)  »
My grandfather Charles Robert Matthews b 1866 Holborn, London emigrated to NZ 1894 arriving in Auckland.  According to my father his father Charles worked in the Taranaki district for several years and he bought 100 acres of ground (partly felled bush) at Matu.  He sold the land after six months. and went to work at Wallaceville Laboratory.

Would there be any records available of Charles Matthews living at Auckland Taranaki for that time period?

Also where would I obtin information re the purchase of the land and the sale of the land to a Mr Willie Campbell, a local farmer.?

Thank you

London and Middlesex / Holborn Bars
« on: Tuesday 24 November 09 23:18 GMT (UK)  »
Just as a matter of interest, my greatgrandparents Thomas and Elizabeth Matthews lived with their children at 102 Theobalds Road, Parish of St George the Martyr and St Andrew, Holborn.  Thomas was a cab proprietor and came from Norfolk.

Would this be classified as "Above the Bars?"

Am wondering if anyone knows if an Isabella Simpson born 1884-5 to Agnes and James Simpson in Edinburgh could have married an Alexander Thomson in Edinburgh in the early 1900's.  Looking forward to any suggestions.

Lanarkshire / 1871 census for Gardner of Airdrie
« on: Friday 04 August 06 12:26 BST (UK)  »
Jessie Gardner (widow of James Gardner - a master joiner) died May 26, 1881 (aged 63) at Nalleraig (?) Street, Airdrie.  I assume she would have been presiding at this address at the time of the 1881 census.  Her son was James Gardner.  Any information as to others residing at this address would be appreciated.

If she was not at this address at time of census, she could have been at either Chapelhall or Bothwell.  Her daughter was Marion Laidlaw Gardner who married Alexander Thomson in Chapelhall, Parish of Bothwell on 11 June 1868.

Our Grandfather Charles Robert Matthews arrived in Auckland on the "Ruapehu" on 27 August 1894 from England.   We would like to know the date of departure from England.

Also, we believe he was a corporal in the veterinary corps in the First World War and went to Samoa in charge of horses.  The ship carrying them was the
"Talune".  We can't seem to find confirmation of this.
