Flintshire / Schools in Flint, Flintshire about 1910 - 1925
« on: Friday 18 February 22 12:07 GMT (UK)  »
I am going to try and look for school records for my grandmother.  She was born in Flint, Flintshire in 1910.  I believe that the records will be held in the Flintshire Records Office, but first I need to work out which school she would have been at.  What schools were available in Flint around 1900 - 1925 and what ages would she have been at school during this period?
Thanks
Mike

Sligo / Margaret or Bridget Horne/Horen possibly from Sligo
« on: Sunday 30 January 22 13:49 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching two names.  They may be the same person.  Margaret Horne is on the 1851 census born in 1797 in Ireland.  Then I have Bridget Horn on the 1841 census born in 1801 in Ireland, Bridget Horne on the 1861 census born in 1801 in Ireland, Bridget Horen on the 1871 census born in Sligo Ireland.  They appear to have a daughter Margaret born in 1833 in Ireland who married Michael Connelly also from Ireland, possibly Roscommon.  I have found members of both families living in areas around Woverhampton on census's in areas such as St Peters Square, Tin Shop Yard, Tin Shop Passage, Clarks Building, Charles Street and North Street.  I am trying to trace the Irish roots of these two families in particular Margaret/Bridget.  Has anyone else come across these families?

Flintshire / Mumforth Street in Flint
« on: Monday 24 January 22 16:15 GMT (UK)  »
Does anybody have any information or photographs of Mumforth Street in Flint.  I remember my grandmother living there until it was demolished in the mid 1960s and she was moved to the flats but I know very little else about the street.

Flintshire / Mary Catherine Roberts, Connah's Quay or Flint
« on: Friday 26 November 21 18:01 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching Mary Catherine Roberts.  She married Richard H Roberts in 1937 in Wrexham.  I have found her in two 1911 census's with the same age but with different fathers and locations.  One is in Flint and the other in Connah's Quay, towns which are next to each other.  I think that the only way I can resolve this is by seeing who the mother of father is on the marriage certificate or Parish Record of Marriage.  I cant see marriage record in the North Wales BMD which makes me think that there is no marriage certificate, and I can't find a copy of the Parish Record that shows the father.  Any ideas?

Flintshire / Birth discrepancy
« on: Tuesday 16 March 21 22:40 GMT (UK)  »
I have just spotted a discrepancy in the birth of my grandfather that I cant believe I missed before.  Robert William Humphreys is shown on his birth certificate as being born at 20 Park Hill Road in Connah's Quay on 20th Sep 1911.  He is also shown on the 1911 census as being one month old and being born in Mold.  The census would suggest he was born in March of that year.  I cant explain the discrepancy.

Cheshire / Chester market in the 1870s
« on: Tuesday 16 February 21 23:23 GMT (UK)  »
My great great grandfather Michael Stout was a fisherman in Chester.  He also had stall no 3 in Chester market, selling salmon and other fresh fish.  I have this information in an advert from the Cheshire Observer dated 5th Aug 1876.  I understand that the market replaced an earlier one in 1865 and was in operation until 1967 when it was demolished.  I would like to learn more about this market, particularly around 1876 when my relative had his stall there.
